I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, I just thought it ironic and had to share. BTW after scrubbing in these tires the grip level is great, though admittedly I don't really have any good benchmark to compare to. I did put a GTech in the car though so I'll see how many lateral g's I can pull if that's of any value, who knows?

I just picked up four toyo T1R 225/45/16 front 245/45/16 rear, very happy with them so far quiet and great in the rain and dry. These are new from toyo this year.

Read the bottom of the advertisement to see World's first, Toyo T1r didn't do too well on that Car and Driver Test done by Tirerack, as a matter of fact it finished last place, I looked at those too and they were too expensive, overpriced...

Toyo T1S on mine. They have been on the car for 4 months and I am very happy with them. I don't have anything else to compare them to but, the grip is outstanding in my opinion.

A buddy of mine at work dropped the rag on my desk, he picked it up at a local auto repair shop, it's called "RPM Motoring Monthly", looks like a fledgling startup mag, it doesn't offer subscritions and it's only in its' 6th issue. Looks pretty good... main article this month was on the GT500...

I bet you'll like the Hankooks better, harder sidewall, it'll give you someting to compare them to...

I'm leaning toward the Avon Tech M500's, primarily because (a) most people seem to say they are quieter, which is important to me, (b) most people seem to say they are pretty close in performance to the best of breed, (c) they're reasonably priced, and (d) they come in the 16" sizes I am looking for 245/45 and 225/50.

Those are the same sizes I have on mine, I was going to get Avons, but they are Tirerack only and they seemed heavy compared to the others (28lbs vs. 23lbs.) and I heard they fall "out of round", otherwise they are a great looking tire, both sidewall and tread pattern. Hope you let us know how they work out for ya'!

Tom,

I have the Michelin Pilot Sports. If you are interested in Michelin, we could hook up and take a spin. Good grip and you could make your own decision on noise. However my car has the Elephant Racing setup, sphearical bearings and poly bronze bushing, so tires on my car would differ quite a bit from your car.

Be careful of Tire Rack though. I got mine from them, and the fronts they sent me were Mercedes spec tires ("MO" on the sidewall) not Porsche spec (cant remember what my tire shop said the Porsche spec "Letters" would be). When I replace this set, you can be certain I will have a discussion with the Tire Rack salesperson before I order.

Yes, you can ONLY get them through the Tirerack, around $40-$50 in shipping for all 4...
