Do you realize what is required to do an ECU upgrade (reflash) to a Audi A6 2.7tt? An average of $500.
For a 993 Turbo? $3000.
For a Bentley GT? $4500.
Same exact mods.
you're onto something here, but this is only part of the 'big' picture. with something like ECU chips, there's a lot of initial r&d costs associated with producing that first chip. as more aftermarket suppliers produce competing chips, the price drops across the board. some of the multiple variables that affect the chip prices;

1) not all aftermarket modders can afford a 'test' bentley or 993 turbo that they can afford to potentially blow the motor up during testing to get the tuning right. on the other hand, many more modders can afford a cheap honda to blow up. thus, there are less shops offering ECU upgrades for higher priced cars.

2) less shops offering upgrades = less competition = higher price

3) more expensive r&d (getting a 993 turbo to test and repair, etc. vs. a honda) = more expensive chip

4) and as you've already stated, the 993 clientele is obviously going to be willing to pay more $$ for upgrades than a honda customer, just like a 951 owner is usually more willing to pay premium for upgrades vs. a 944 owner. just check the two griffin radiator group buys and see how many 944 owners ordered one (answer: none).

however, the 951 owner will demand that their upgrade performs as advertised, and will often dyno-test, track test, measure, etc. to verify everything. very few 944 owners actually dyno-tune their cars.

the flip side of the coin is that MOST upgrades for 951's will usually work as advertised, or close to it, and is usually of exceptional quality vs. MOST upgrades for hondas are bling-bling ricer crap that might actually make your car perform worse.

and now we're way off topic. so how's that new exhaust header coming along mark ?

Yikes!
Well, don't you wish you had some (cheaper) alternatives with the mods?
I know sometimes $$$ HAS to be spent to do something right, but I don't think these headers are one of those "I have to spend $2000" upgrades.
There are alternatives. Hopefully Mark's is a good one.
I'm looking forward to it.
Yes, I can have them done even cheaper than what Mark quoted, but there's no way I'm gonna have time.

I as well am looking forward to it. Nothing against any of the other vendors, but if this fellow can beat their cost by $1000, I think we all have something to learn from him.
I eagerly await results!

Holy cripes, how did I not see this?

Schite yea I'd be interested. . . Probably for two sets. My biggest concern would be fitment. Aftermarket parts are notorious for fitting like crap and attention to detail so that more-or-less direct bolt-in and bolt-up to stock crossover would be critical. If this can be done for under a grand, you're gonna' make enough $$$ to buy a new Carerra methinks.

Any way to get 'em with EGT bungs? That'd be a nice tuning option.

Travis & I are meeting up tomorrow afternoon to get started. My mom had a bad leg break last weekend at a family reunion, that pretty much absorbed most of my waking time last weekend/this week. Mark.

Well okay... I guess a family emergency counts as a reason to hold things up

Seriously though, I hope she recovers soon, and just keep us posted when things get going

Mark, is there any chance that at least the 3" full exhaust system may happen within the next couple of month's? I will be needing a muffler soon but I'm willing to hack/patch it up & do what it takes to make it last a bit longer if you are going to go thru with this. if not I will need to look for other solutions.

I can understand the headers taking longer as they are going to be more complicated to design and fab.

TIA
