Rebirth of a racecar - project pics
As many of you know, I recently bought the ex-Technodyne 951 roller from DMoffitt. My intentions are to rebuild it back to a full time racecar and I am planning on keeping it as close to what Chris originally did as much as my skill and budget allows. I highly doubt I'll ever have the skill or budget to get it back to the 3.0L monster setup with the extremely well sorted out JRZ suspension that was in the car when Chris raced it, but it is going to be an iterative process with the goal to get it up and running this summer with a somewhat stock drive train, and we'll see how it goes from there.
So since I know I always have enjoyed watching the progress of projects such as this - Ski and jwl's 's build comes to mind - I figure I will post some starting pics of the car in it's current form and document the build as it goes. There is no way this will progress as fast as the Ski/jwl project, so you guys will have to be patient. Also I'm sure I will be asking for a ton of help. I jump between being totally overwhelmed and scared I am jumping into a money pit and being excited about the challenge, so moral support is welcome
The car is just a shell at this point with a dash, some gauges, switches, and various pieces of ancillary equipment. My first task is going to be to start in on the wiring to get that sorted out, and then I am going to repaint the interior. Next will be drive train, followed by brakes and suspension.
The car is still a bit dirty from the trip on a trailer from Rochester to Cleveland (thanks Mike).
Nice hips! Think I need some spacers?

A couple more pics. The wife was mortified that I was taking advatage of the warmer weather and sunshine by working on the car in the driveway - thought the neighbors would think we are hillbillys. So the first pic is in her honor.
Empty engine bay - hopefully it won't look like this for too long.
Shot of the dual oil coolers behind the headlights - need to fab up some mesh screens to protect them.
Final shot of the snakepit of wiring that I am attacking. Really not as bad as it looks since a lot of it is for turn signals, headlghts, power windows, etc., and will be removed.

Ouch.
I spent a good bit of time making the dash wiring nice for Dave!!
Oh well, you don’t need most of the street stuff anyway!

Good thing is, as you said, most of it is going away. I just need to figure out what to use all those switches for. Horn, front lights, and power windows are all going/gone away so I have 5 switches with no purpose. Thinking of just blanking the hole of with some sort of panel and mounting a couple gauges - boost and AFR - in there.
Any other ideas?

WOW, Skip! Heck of a project!
Tell me again where all the parts are coming from? (you know I may have a few you need)
Uumm, your house number isn't 666, is it?

666 it is - fitting huh? I have parts coming from a whole variety of places, but I will touch base with you when I really get into it. I could use a 4" exhaust, new Lindsey turbo and MAF - know where I can find them

I'm not a religious guy, but I'm surprised the builders used that number. It is kind of like buildings with no 13th floor. You probably won't have a problem with religious vandals messing with you.. then again, I'm not sure if there is such a thing as religious vandals. Never mind..
back to one cool thread!!

Smoke Screen
Oil Slick
Misc sharp objects dispenser
What else could a club racer need?
