![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Car:
1987 951 (non-S) type 352 engine 2.5lt
Symptoms:
There is cold, first white line (1/4) second white line (3/4), orange/red line (HOT)!
OPINNION
The car will heat up to ¾, one fan distinctively turns on high, and the care cools to ¼. The car never did this before the automatic car wash that I took this car through
Factory wrench opinion:
He has not inspected nor test-drove the car and suspect’s the thermostat.
My opinion:
Relay for the fan
On the other hand, heat sensor in the radiator.
I WILL NOT RESPOND TO THIS! ASKING FOR OPINION AND EXPERIENCE WITH THESE SYMPTOMS!
THANKS
AJ

Cooling fan switch on the driver's side of the radiator. I had no low speed fans, only high and would come on a 2/3-3/4 to hot according to the guage. Also, possibly the fan relay$$, for 15 bucks vs 100, I'd start with the fan switch.

I'd like to help but you seem hostile and are not making much sense.

I have reviewed the Clarks-Garage Cooling trouble shooting. Today in the light when it heats up will watch and see what it does as well as check and see if everything is pluged in correctly!
Thanks

Also check the fuses for each fan. I had one blown when I bought my car and the single fan would only run on high. Replaced the blown fuse and the low speed returned with both fans running. I'd also switch the plugs on the fans to make sure you don't have a bad fan motor.

I checked the fan fuses prior to starting the car. There was no fuse in # 10 and the one in #15 was good. I installed the proper fuse in #10. My horn fuse (#3) was bad so I replaced that too
I drove the car and in traffic it did the same thing. Let is set for about 5-10 min at idle and he heats up to a little bit more that half way. Then the High speed fans kick on and the temp drops down to the first white bar.
Prior to parking the car I opened the hood and watched the fans.
Symptoms:
With the AC off there is no slow speed only high speed.
With the AC on the slow speed fan’s work.
Clarks Garage trouble shooting guide would lead's to believe that it is the Thermo switch rather than the relay. However, I have a friend with a used relay out of wrecked 951. I am going to ask to borrow it and see if that has an effect on the fans.

Try this:
Disconnect the connector going to the coolant temperature switch on the radiator. Pull the connector up so you can short leads together. With the ignition on and everything clear of the fans, short the Red/White to the Brown (ground) then short the Brown/yellow to the brown. One connection should start the fan in low speed and the other in high speed. If it does this, replace the temperature switch. If it doesn't, replace the fan relay or better yet get a known good one and swap it out.
