Never know really know why people signed like they did. I do know General Patreaus is a helluva Soldier; I worked the Air picture with the BCD during the surge and met him a couple of times. He is plethora of knowledge on the subject of Counter insurgency and Middle East politics. There is a massive job ahead in Afghanistan. -All the best

Didn't know that. Since I work for General Petraeus, that little tid-bit never came up. And before you ask, I have not read the COIN Manual.
I have no idea of the change, but Amos was Deputy Commandant at the time, perhaps it was MC decision to have him in that position sign it instead of Mattis as MCCDC. Just a thought.
