How much down force does the stock rear hatch wing produce. Would it be considered dangerous to drive with out it, at what speeds does it really make a difference.
How hard is to remove it and what is under it? will there be ugly holes if I remove it?
I have an AIR street front splitter do you think this combined with no rear spoiler top or bottom would be dangerous and if so starting at what speeds?

I think you would probably be fine without the rear wing. Run it up to 150 with and without it and see what you think. Your best bet however is to find a 924 hatch as it does not have the holes for the spoiler IIRC.

I am taking them off for looks, the bottom one is gone, the bumper has been replaced, but I want to remove the top one for a clean smoothe look.

You could get a fiberglass version and paint it to match your body color. That would be a bit lighter, more sleek looking, and retain the functionality of the rear wing, which I bet is fairly substantial.

looks kind of raw and crazy. i'd do it on an n/a. not on my beautiful turbo.
black out lights are another story.
oooh,, maybe i should do smoke-out side marker lights.

testarossa, thanks for another great PS, that is the look I am going for.
Edc, of coarse they put it there for a reason, but how much does it actualy do? Is that reason more looks than performance? Have you seen the spoiler lip on an E46 M3, I bet its there for a reason too, but how much difference does it make its tiny. Hondas also come with wings from the factory with a wing, and I bet it is there for a reason too. The question is, is it there to set it apart from other 924/944s and look "sporty" or is it so functional that it would make a big difference if removed and pose as a safety hazard.

I don't understand the desire to take a Porsche and try to make it look like something else, especially when those pieces served some functional aero benefit. As I recall reading in an old road rest, the under bumper piece directed airflow under the car to lower drag. The upper spoiler I suspect was a compromise between lowering drag and increasing downforce and/or decreasing lift. I'm not sure, but from a resale value point of view if would seem to decrease the vehicle's market value, or even put off potential buyers altogether. 911s came with and without spoilers, but not the 951. To me a 951 without a spoiler looks goofy. But hey it is your car. Go for it. I'd be willing to guess that the rear would get "light" and "flighty" at those speeds, especially if you needed to make a steering correction. To each his own.

EdC, it might and might look funny with out a wing. There is a yard down the road with a 924 hatch with no wing on it I am going to get then I'll decide what I think. What I really wanted was the 968 turbo s set up but all of the peices at the price I found are around 3000$ for new parts painted on the car. What I also wanted was the base from the bi-wing with a touring car style wing with the stantions cut low to the level of the 968s, but still to expense for what you get.
I really don't like the stock rear wing and it looks out of place on my car now. As far as changing the way something is that is the way I am. I see a 951 as a good starting point for a great car. But I feel in needs some help in the looks department and I doing my best to fix that and to me it looks alot better now. I don't feel like I am destroying something sacred, taking this car apart and putting it back together there are alot more VW and Audi logos then Porsche, I will always think of 911s as Porsches and not so much 914s, 924s, 944s and Cayennes. This is an entry level german sports car I am trying to take to super car levels.
Don't get me wrong I love this car, I just don't think it is holy perfection, its just a well executed car with huge potential.
