One correction: engine made 420hp @ 1bar and in excess of 500 @ 1.4 bars. Info is from the May 2002 Excellence article about that car ("Who's the Boss?").
And there was another car that a guy in US has, chassis number 924 005.
There was total of 12 engines built of which two are still present. Others were broken during tests.

Here's my reference, it gives pretty detailed info about the car and I really doubt Excellence would miss such facts. 420 hp is what I read from other sources also...

I see that 924 GTP almost regularly as it is owned by a friend. Neat car . Another friend has one of the Fabcar 944 GTR's and a 924 GTR and it is a shame the cars never get tracked .
I was told that the 944 GTR was clocked at 192 mph at the end of the straight at Brainerd. Supossedly the fastest top speed ever recorded for a Trans Am car.

Well I cannot say for sure, it appears there is a discrepancy between Porsche AG and Excellence. Perhaps the car was later discovered to have more horsepower than Porsche estimated it to have? In any case, that's a great article, thanks for sharing it!

I can Honestly say , 420 bhp is Porsche Talk , they are usually very conservative,
take that number with a very big grain of salt .....

Here is a bit of information I had gathered, to be used in my 944 resource, but feel free to use it as well, just give me credit is all I ask:
The 944 GTP/R (the Boss sponsored car that members have been linking pictures to) was a one off Le Mans prototype car built by Porsche in '81 for the '82 Le Mans race.
The 944 GTP/R Le Mans was a Porsche factory dedicated 1982 Le Mans racer. It was a one off prototype built by Porsche specifically for the 24 hour Le Mans race. According to Porsche, the GTP, although featuring virtually the same 2479cc engine as the later production models (save the DOHC featured in the GTP), produced a staggering 410 bhp at 6500 RPM. Moreover, the car’s top speed was estimated to be over 185 mph. Although the GTP wasn’t expected to succeed at Le Mans, it came in seventh place overall - quite a success in and of itself, never mind the fact that the GTP spent the least amount of time in the pits of all the teams that competed.[1]
The 1989 Porsche Dealer Directory booklet detailed the 944 GTP:[2]
Engine: Four-cylinder, four-valve, in-line, water-cooled, turbo engine, two belt-driven overhead camshafts
Output: 410 bhp at 6500 RPM
Displacement: 2479 cc/151.2 ci
Fuel system: Bosch, full-electronic
Driveline: Four-speed gearbox, limited-slip differential, transaxle layout
Chassis: Unitary steel body, plastic skin, independent suspension, coil springs, vented disc brakes
Dimensions and weight: Wheelbase 93.6 in, length 163.8 in, weight 2094 lbs
Performance: Top speed 186 mph
Chassis No of museum car: 924 006
Below are some pictures by Porsche AG of the 944 GTP/R:

There is no such animal as a 944 GTP, nor did a 944 GTP/r run @ lemans in 1982 by Porsche, this is very mis-leading ...

although not a 944gtr, I have about 30 pics of a 924gtr taken at a motorshow. I have no webspace on rennlist but could e-mail (about 40mb) the pics to someone who can publish them if there is some interest.

the pics you quoted are of the '1981 Porsche 924 GTP (944LM)'. this is the 944 dohc 16v turbo prototype. the 924 Carrera GTR is the top of the line 2.0L audi-based engine car. Both raced in 1981 Le Mans 24 hrs:

Well, I clicked on that link that he provided and took at look. Maybe I am reading it wrong, but, I believe that in position #7 there was a 944 GTP that raced, or am I seeing wrong?
