I have a 924GTR there too, the engine is out but otherwise pretty original and the way it raced in the early 80's. Some of the stuff on it is pretty cool, it’s basically a front engine RSR.

We had a somewhat forgettable race at Sebring that year and DNF'd but one thing I remember was George passing me on the back straight like I was tied to a tree. This was a pretty fast RSR and the GTR was at least 10mph faster top speed, it was a real eye opener.. Here's a photo of my RSR from the year before, don't have any from 1981.
There was a bizarre incident at Sebring in 1981 involving a GTR too. Actually bizarre was fairly normal in those days. I knew a guy that had a Porsche shop in Orlando, every year he and his buddies brought a live pig and kept in a pen until they were ready to cook it Friday night. The pig escaped during Thursday night practice and ran out on the track. James Brolin was driving Deborah Gregg's GTR (Peter's widow) and clobbered the pig pretty good. Bad enough the session was stopped for a wrecker to retrieve it. Story goes the wrecker crew took the pig home and ate it : )

Is the name Alan Johnson familiar to anyone here regarding these cars? SCCA club racing Riverside International Raceway 1986.
My 86 944 turbo back in 1993 had a DME chip installed by MCL Porsche in Vancouver, BC that was an Alan Johnson chip. Same generation ball park when Autothority came out I had the Alan Johnson chip installed. Chip worked far better that the Autothority for the time. No one on here has ever commented as to having heard or experience with the chips. Just a piece of forgotten 951 history It really woke the car up back in the day.

Thanks PF, I really don't have much technical expertise just come at them from a driver's viewpoint. Here's a story of how I was introduced to the 924GTR's. Living in Jacksonville since 1980 I soon got to know the guys at Brumos as I was racing an RSR at the time. Also I lived down the street from friend George Drolsom who was racing a 2.5 911 in IMSA. He lived on the old Brundage property (Brundage Motorsport=Brumos) that had a nice race shop. Over the Winter of 1981 Jack Atkinson (Peter Gregg's crew chief) was rebuilding the RSR engine there in prep for Sebring. In about January George picked up his new 924GTR at the port. I'd never seen a new factory race car before it turned a wheel. It was absolutely stunning in all white complete with wheel fans, you almost didn't want to see it subjected to the rigors of endurance racing it was so beautiful.

Just re-kicking an old thread! I worked for Dave Klym when these cars were first built. I was the apprentice engineer on the project and did a lot of the detail drawings for brackets and ducts, etc...I even got to build the rad ducts and other aluminum panels for the cars. I know alot about who was involved in the project, a really who's who from the racing world. I would love the chance to see one of these run again sometime soon. I saw them race in TransAm, and saw a couple run in SCCA National events.

@tomjshore sorry for the delayed response, I believe the Paul Miller car was the first one delivered, his crew chief at the time was Lee White who did a lot of the body work design. I did build/work on the first batch, I recall seven were built originally.

Can't answer for this car, but at Rennsport Reunion VII there were 962s representing: single turbo, single wastegate; single turbo, dual wastegates; twin turbo, single wastegate; twin turbo, dual wastegates. So, the concept is valid from a Porsche Motorsports engineering standpoint.

@tomjshore after reviewing the photos you posted of the bare chassis, I'm sure that is not a Fabcar chassis 944, it looks like the Paul Miller 924 turbo TransAm cars that Lee White built. The bodywork looks very similar which I believe is due to the fact that Lee White designed and built the bodies for both cars.
