[QUOTE=nize]i'm curious, how does the megasquirt compare to the wolf3d ems ? i'm wondering if it's cheaper time-wise to just go with the plug-and-play solution;

I looked at it before I went with the MS and it does look pretty nice. I just checked again and the V500 has quite the feature list, loads of inputs and outputs and stuff. I really like the ide of MegaSquirt though and so far itll do almost everything I want. Im looking forward to the MS3 and eventually UltraMegaSquirt

can you explain what exactly the megasquirt does that the wolf3d doesn't ?

Couldnt see anything, the Wolf has more features even. More inputs and outputs, maps dedicated to those outputs (3d control of water injection, that kinda stuff from what I gathered). However, it is $1900+ for the V500 version, whereas my MegaSquirt is pushing $400 maybe. It makes it less expensive to get into, get out of, play with, upgrade, break, etc. And its open source, so if I wanted to play with the code I can (and I plan to try). Its also under continual improvement and development by a huge number of people.

Basically it all comes down to personal preference and skill level. I like tinkering with stuff and being challenged, so those were two big factors in my choice of MegaSquirt.

Bumping the tread after 5 years!

Bought MS II, and gathering info for the build and install on my 951.

Good to see more people are using it and sharing info for the community

Definitely interested in this, though, isn't the MS-III out now and has a bajillion extra little things?

MSing an E30 or E36 BMW has always been on my short list of "fun things to do sometime."

I've got a system, and I've built it. I have decided that I am goiing to have my flywheel drilled and tapped and use it for the signal. I'll be going with the 36-1 tooth wheel setup and teh Ford EDIS (otherwise I'd probably look into Chris White's setup, which uses a 60-2).

Also, for the record, if anyone is thinking of using an S2 flywheel, which also has a 60-2 tooth pattern, it is smaller in diameter than the Turbo one. So, uh......anyone need an S2 flywheel?

Does the stock Idle Valve(3 wire) work well, or is it best a 2-wire to make it simpler?
Does it need a TIP122 to trigger it, or direct from the MS?

This is the MS, one afternoon´s work:

75% done, 2.5 bar MAP installed.

I thought Bruce (95One) had figured out how to mate the 60-2 on the turbo fly/PP setup...?

No idea. Still want to run the Ford EDIS stuff, meaning 36-1. Just picked up the flywheel while I was collecting 16V stuff. It was kind of how I thought to maybe putting cap set screws around the perimeter of the flywheel (the way the reference sensor trigger is, only every 10 degrees).

My idea is using Edis, with the toothed wheel on the front crank pulley.

+1, interesting

95% finished, just the PWM for the Idle valve to go . Im thinking in changing the stock 3-wire valve, for a 2-wire.
