Good point, but the issue usually is supposed to be dealt with by a switch on the tune, either a simple 1/2 switch or a redownload in an emergency.

Home of the Infantry, definitely.
LOL, everybody starts with the intention of an LS7, but you'll quickly learn the reality of that idea.
I could get a steal on a ls7 and it would be cheeper than my damn 3.0ltr crate motor I was gonna order.

Whats the reality btw? I could pick up a ls7 for 10k for sure. With everything i'd need. Looks like a nice ls2 will run about 6-7k and a nice ls1 about 3-4k. If it ment I could get a ls7 but, would have to put the project off for a year to do it(moneywise). I wouldn't have a problem waiting. Will the 427ci not fit?

You'd be better off with a LS1 (over the LS2/LS7), then using the extra money (difference in cost) for AFR heads, cam, FAST intake/throttle body and headers (the headers would probably be part of the V8 kit no matter the engine). Expect 475-495HP at the wheels on pump gas.... all day long, every day, with zero issues (ever).

The ls7 would be no different. Its not that you couldn't get away alot cheeper you could but, how many ls7 944's are there out there? Plus the motor is completely dry sumped and cam+bolt on's will make north of 520-540rwhp on pump gas.
I know i'd be satisfied with the level of performance from a modded ls2 or something and it woud prolly save me 3-4k but, like I said I've waited this long it would mean nothing for me to continue to wait awhile longer. I wasn't talking about doing this until may/june anyhow. If I had to delay it 6/8/10 more months I prolly wouldn't care that much.
Once its done its done kinda thing. That motor would last for the life of the car and if im gonna drop 15k on a damn motorswap it had better be EXACTLY what I want.

I'll hit you up on MSN.
Here's a dynograph of a cam/long tube LS2 over a stock LS7:

I thoroughly agree with TonyG that the LS1 is the best bang for the buck. I do not agree that you'll see 475-495hp at the wheels out of a 5.7 in an IRS, single exhaust car. That would take a monster cam to get within 40 of those numbers and it won't have nice street manners. The beauty of this swap though, is that you don't need them. 320rwhp in an LS 944 is a beast.

I don't want to dissuade you, because I think the LS7 is the king. You just have to factor a whole bunch more cheddar than just the cost difference between it and the LS1.

The car does sit a little higher & I noticed the lighter steering effect as the originator of this thread mentioned when I test drove the V8 this year.
