V8 in, early review

I knew it fit in the fabcar chassis but that was a tube frame. Would it fit in a standard 951? I don't think so. Hell, anyone ever try to fit a 911 motor in a 951? Or even thought about it?

I wasn't suggesting a 928 motor in a 951, I was simply suggesting a complete 928. I figured for the cost of making a 944 with an ls2, meaning the whole conversion, one could spend the money pumping up a 928 with serious power. But the 928 would be pure Porsche, not just the engine but everything else could remain unchanged, like the steering, brakes, etc.
The comment about hating them... Didn't mean to offend anyone (Brendan), it's just that I've had lousy terrible experiences owning 928s and I will never again own one, or let my dad own one (he's the one who kept buying them). I just thought I'd add another point of view to consider.
And in the end the 928's drawbacks can mostly be corrected, like the weight and electronics. Furthermore it offers some advantages, like the dual A-arms and meatier suspension/brakes.
BUT i know how it is. We all love *these* cars. We're not looking for the best route to a fast machine, we're looking to make our beloved 944s into fast machines. All enthusiasts out there feel the same. I see 3 choices: spend loads of money and time making my car fast, buy a faster car, or compromise somehow. I don't know what I want to do yet...

Oh you Rogue, you!
I think 'why' also, but it is interesting.
Joe, my understanding is that in essence our engines are of a better design than most 911's, but when you hear of those big thumping 1000hp turbo's you wonder what's going on there? I wonder what gearbox's these guys run? I am like a dog with a bone at the moment re gearbox upgrades for our cars. Why would a G50 or whatever else be able to handle more power than our ones? Equally if F1 cars back in the day of 1.5L were getting well over 1000hp, why is it even so hard to get half of this with 3.0L and upwards? Of course they revved out to stupid rpm's ,but we can make a free spinning engine to rev into the high 8's I'm sure. Problem is the cost. Damn small capacity Jap cars are making over 500hp now. I will keep going though.

I have seen photo's on another forum of a 911 engine in a 944. Not sure of the details but will try to dig up the photo. It certainly wasn't a pretty instal.
The 928 engine is a pretty tight squeeze in a 928. I'm not so sure it will be a simple drop into a 944. I'd also expect it to be quite heavy in comparison to an LS1 given an LS1 is slightly lighter than a 944 engine and a 944 engine is lauded to be half a 928 engine. I'd imagine you'd have a significant weight penalty.

No guesses please.
