Would there be any interest in a rear shelf for our cars? Update.

Chip, for occasional use the carpet that covers the seat wells is perfectly fine to sit in-adding the seat material just takes away space. I'm happy with mine without any additional covering.

Ah..............things kind of got put on the back burner. Between family, work, and parting out these 944's I've got enough on my plate at the moment.
I hope to clear up some time in March. I DO still plan on doing this, just not enough time/resources to expend on it at the moment.
Sorry for the delay.

A construction technique that came to mind was something I read about the new Corvette. Apparently, the floorboards are made by simply sandwiching light balsa wood between two thin layers of carbon fibre. Molding some contoured ends out of ABS, and making it so they could bolt onto a large plank of balsa sandwiched by CF or maybe something else. Sounds pretty strong and light.

Doesn't have to be carbon fibre. I have no idea what your production abilities are. Whether you have machines to mold plastic, or all hand made hand assembled.

Does anyone have and pics of rear covered in carpet only. I know the seat upper weighs a ton, but bottoms are pretty light as they are just foam. Maybe 4-5 lbs.

For me doing this would be weight reduction thing. Pull the rear seats top and bottom and replace with carpet only. I don't thing the shapes are of seat bases are that bad and might look ok with a carpet inside.

I'm pretty sure Rich did that for his 86. I know he put lightweight carpets in the rear.

Now this looks good I like it Light and stripped out, yet somehow refined.
