Default Experience with 18psi GURU?

I have an 88' Turbo S silver rose, no mods on engine at the moment...

I've been in contact with Danno selling the Guru 18psi chips.
He tells me to expect aprox 270-275 hp on the wheels using theese chips, wastegateshimms, 3bar fuel regulator and his reliaboost VBC.

Do anyone "independent" have any experience with this setup? He says that the injectors are at their limmits, but that it will work. I'n not trying to say that i doubt it, and im not in any way trying to flame danno@guru or asking anyone else to do this, im just asking for qualified statements. I think this will be good HP upgrade quite cheaply, if it turns out to be reliable.

I have the 18 psi Guru chips with MAP. I did about 300 rwhp with the stock K26/8 on a Dynojet. I also have upgraded the injectors to 55 lb/hr. The car moves very nicely.

With just chips (no MAP), 270-275 rwhp sounds reasonable. Here is my dyno chart:

This is my personal experience not a flame on anyone!!!
I installed the "Guru" 18psi chips and had problems with the way the car ran.
It was alot stronger but had idle ,cold start and hesitation problems.
I decided I didn't want to go to the trouble of having the chips fine tuned for my car.
I installed a set of "Vitesse" chips instead. All I can say is WOW!
The car runs great with no problems.
I'm confident that Danno could have gotten the chips for my car working
but I was really looking for a plug and play set of chips.

I used to have APE Stage II on my car. It was sluggish initially on first gear but I thought it was normal since my 87 turbo did the same thing and it had APE stage II chip. I installed Danno's 18 PSI chip 3 weeks ago and "YESSS" what a difference. There's no more hesitation on first. Idles much smoother. Accelerates much quicker and I can feel the difference in pull. I haven't dynoe'd yet but from the way it feels it's much smoother and stroger than APE. I don't know why I waited this long to swap.

Here is mine. The differences you will notice are that I have the MAP kit and I'm only running 16 Psi of boost. From what I've read, I'm almost bumping up against the limit of the injectors at this level. Next season with new injectors, I'll have it up to 18 Psi.

HTH,

Justin

Justin: Is that the reason why you'r a bit rich in the 3.5-k+ rpm range?

Partially, but mostly because I've only been to the dyno twice and have focused on getting the lean spots and the super rich spots flattened out. The MAP sensor should be able to compensate for running a couple pounds less boost.

im currently running APE stage 2 chips/banjo... but am seriously considering Guru chips. Went for a ride in a 210k mile '86 951 with nothing other than the guru 18psi setup, and like it. I'd also like to hear other's experiences with the guru setup.

Love the 3rd through 5th gear with my APE stg 2... but first is a joke (feels just like stock), and it billows black smoke under boost in certian conditions (WAY rich). The Guru-equipped car felt far stronger in first, and pulled harder through the gears. His motor is well-worn, too...

Still think the APE stg 2 chips are a huge improvement over stock, but am keeping an eye out for Guru's.

I had planned on adding my SMT6 for further refinement, 'specially changing things... but just found out it's completely dead. Gotta see what the warranty is on it

BTW, anyone know if an otherwise stock 951 will pass the CA rolling smog check with the Guru chips?

Thanks for alot of interesting feedback on my questions here.
Will it be far-fetched of me thinking that theese chips and setup (chips+3bar fuel regulator+wgshimms+vbc) will work plug and play 18psi with original injectors?

I do have the Zeitronic to observe the AFR values...

A friend of mine had that set-up successfully. Now he has added a Map-kit too, quite close to maxed injectors...but car pulls strongly.

Just my opinion but if you want plug and play go with "Vitesse" .
You won't be disapointed with the customer service or the quality of the product. And yes his chips make more power.
No dyno to back up my opinion just seat of the pants.
IMHO!

Can you please explain how Vitesse chips make more power then Danno's chips??? If you can prove it with a dyno then i'll believe you. Danno puts all his chips on dyno, i've never seen a dyno of vetesse yet.

Danno's stuff is top notch. I'm saving up for his 18psi kit as well.
Dhal, I know of a couple guys that have passed CA smog with Dan's 15psi chips, no word on the 18s though.

Dyno chart is on the Vitesse site.
