![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
looking for a new set tires for my '88 951 daily driver - i have 8 & 9x16 Club Sports for the car just back from the powder coater' now I need a set of decent everyday driving tires to mount! anybody have suggestions on sizing, tire brands and tire models - of i'm looking for decent street performance (gotta have alittle fun going to work!), low cost and decent tread life?
i was thinking:
235/45-16 on the frt (8x16)
245/45-16 on the rear (9x16)
OR
245/45-16 (frt)
255/45-16 (rear)
any ideas?
thanks
tom

235/45/16 is not available from any major manufacturer

I would use 225/50/16 and 245/45/16 or 245/45/16 all around. There is almost nothing left in 16" tires to choose from any more as no one uses them any longer. Therefore, you are stuck with very limited size selections.

thanks for the info - i was just thinking, i wonder if 245/45-16 would look strange all the way around since the frt are 8's and rear are 9's - the frt might actullay look wider than the rears once their on the car? i think i might go with:
225/50-16 and
245/45-16
is anybody running these on there car? how do they look even thought the frt tire measures a little taller side wall height thatn the rear!
thanks

Tom - did you read my response? Yes, you can and really should use those sizes (though I would be real tempted to use the 245/45 all around). The front measure marginally taller just as it does with the 993 TT and a lot of other Porsche cars. It is no big deal.
FWIW - I am a professional tire guy.

I have 205/55-16 F ; 225/50-16 R with the 7/8 combo on Fuchs. What other options do I have for tires? What would be an advange to going bigger? Who makes good tires for our cars also?

Where did you get the 8x16 Club Sports? I thought those were very rare. I think the stock tire sizes (225/50x16F, 245/45x16 rear) would look better on that rim combo than on the stock 7x16/9x16 Club Sports.
I would suggest the brand and type of tires that I am running with good results, but then Matt would insist on jumping up and down on my spine. He has a tendency to advise against them.

Question? What tires are recommended for a stock 951 (brand)?
205/55(R,RZ)16 Front
255/50(R,RZ)16 Rears
I have Potenza SO-2's that are worn down. Keep spinning tires in first and second gear under boost. Problem is that they cost $325 CDN PER TIRE in Toronto, Canada!!!! I guess the sidewalls have to be an N type tire.

I've got Bridgestone RE 750s on my car and have been quite happy with them - they seem to be a good balance of performance in both wet and dry. Also, they seem to run quieter than the Yokohamas I had before.
I went with the stock size for a Turbo S this time - 225/50x16 in front and 245/45x16 in the rear. I'm not sure I love the way this looks though - the 245/50x16s I had before seemed to fill the fenders a little more and the car sat just a little higher in the back - giving it a slightly more aggresive stance than it has now. With the stock rear size the car sits lower in the back and I definately feel the shorter sidewall in ride quality - definately a bit harsher.
All in all I dig the Bridgestone and they weren't too pricey. Not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. On the occasional aggresive canyon run they handle well - predictable with lots of stick.
Good luck.

I would suggest 225/45/16 for the front and 245/45/16 for the rear. Yokohama's are pretty good and reasonable in price. You can find Michellen tires for that size but $$$$$.....

I would stick with those sizes but you can go to the wider 225/245 combo. It is, however, a mother bitch to mount them and dismounting can be even worse. I do use the 225 width on a set of 7" Boxster Twists and a 255 on the 8.5" Boxster S wheels.
but then Matt would insist on jumping up and down on my spine. He has a tendency to advise against them.
Waterguy, you KNOW it has nothing to do with you. I just try to let people know what they are getting themselves into when there are other not much more expensive options out there. :>)

I would advise against this as the front tire then becomes .7 inches shorter than the rear (can you say old Camaro???) It is also 1" shorter than a 225/50/16. FWIW - the S-03 is 169 bucks in the 225/45/16 at TireRack. And Bridgestone has a rebate going on right now.
Andrew - one thing that does not come through in the picture is that you are running the 7/8" combo. Mike1982, this is what you were asking about, to which, above, I responded that it could be done and here is your proof :>)

OK - now I'm really confused
- everybody has an opinion (which is good) BUT which way do i go and what brand tire do i buy? here's the deal - i need these tires to be inexpensive - decent performance and all-weather useful (the car is a daily driver) - as for the 8" CS - Yes they are rare & Yes they really do look good on the 951 (in my opinion)
So here is another question:
if I go with the 225/50-16 frt, what about a 245/45-16 rear w/a spacer to fillout to the edge of the wheel well - has anybody done this and what thickness scaper and length stds did you use?
BUT as Matt H has mentioned TWICE now!! - he would opt for the 245/45-16 all the way around- still curious about this set-up - anybody done this with 8 & 9 inch wheels? hey Matt H - what are your suggestions on tire brands and models - based on te above criteria?
has any used the KUMHO 711's OR 712's - there cheap!
what about TOYO Proxies T1S OR the YOKO AVS ES100
gotta come up with something soon - need to get the girl on the road this wekend!!
thanks
