I was only able to drive mine a month since i just got it and now its winter but i did hit 100+ a few times, crazy when ur that low to the ground.

If you did that on a public road and not a closed course or track, shame on you.

Real top speed or speedo figure ?

I get 271 kph (168.4 mph) on my speedo, which I believe is extremely over enthusiastic.

I seen over 165mph on my speedo, but that was downhill ( only slightly though!! ) so I guess it doesent count. I would have gone faster but I was about to hit the rev limiter so I backed off.

The most I've seen on the level is just under 150mph.

Obviously this all took place on my private test track!!!

I have done 139.9MPH in my early '85 944. Slightly down hill...

OT: My turbo charged Miata can slame the rev limiter in 5th! 140MPH indicated. I wonder how fast it could go with bigger gears?

There's a big difference. Your comparison to being 1 mph over a speed limit is lame.

100mph on a public road is reckless. Period.

Tifo, Know lets not straddle the fence here, even 1 mile/hr over the legal limit is against the law. Personaly I drive my everyday vehicle like and old man, but my Porsche on the other hand, I'll usually find a low traffic road and break the law in a careful manner. Lets face it, everyone that ownes a Porsche speeds one time or another, lets just hope they do it in a carefuly.

tifo, speeding on an open stretch of 4 lane highway at 2am is hardly reckless. I'm the first one to admit that speeding through traffic is dumb as hell (I live in atlanta, come on) but give the guy a break. Not all of us can afford to go to a race track every time we want to have a little bit of fun, so I say as long as you do it in a safe manner, have at it.

"tifo, speeding on an open stretch of 4 lane highway at 2am is hardly reckless. "

As a matter of fact it is extremely wreckless. Speed limits exist for a reason. Some may argue that they are experienced drivers in a performance car, well I say when one travels at speeds in excess of 130 it is difficult to see imperfections in the road such as pot holes and large cracks. Hit one of thoes at 130 and you may blow out a tire, spin and probably flip several times. How about if a a large land animal wanders onto said highway? You are not going to see it in time, you will probably hit it, it will come over the hood though your windshield and decapitate you. God forbid a child wandered on the road. I dont care how smart you guys think you are or how well you think you drive, but if you think speeding on public roads is not dangerous you are going to learn a real difficult lesson.

I am not sure whether speeding being reckless or not is the subject here.

Pearceman3 do you want to take that chance? If you had half a brain you would spend some money and go to a track. Thom, after several years of doing auto xing and tracking I can say that American roads are not suitable for extreme high speed driving.

Yeah going that fast is dumb, but it also gets you pumpin, and our cars are MADE to go fast. If someone wants to top out on a deserted piece of highway, let them, not your problem. If they hit a dear, pothole or something else, it's their own fault. I just hope they dont take anyone with them. Oh yeah, and if a child climbs the barbed wire 7ft fence around my highway at 2am, they probably deserve a Darwin Award or something....
