Default Pulling Engine

Going to buy the 2ton puller from Harbor Freight. Does it come with the bar that you connect the engine to? If not, where can I get one?

It doesn't, but Harbor Freight also sells it. It's called the Load Leveler.

I use a HF three ton version and load leveler. It reaches farther when pulling from the front.

You'll also need something to secure the loose chains from the load leveler to the lifting brackets. I picked up some 1 Ton-rated hasps from Home Depot.

I'm with Kevin, you need the 3 ton for the extra reach.

The 2 Ton unit works just fine if you position it to the side of the engine bay instead of head-on. I just pulled my motor out today using a HF 2 ton unit and load leveler. Hardest part of the pick was getting the wiring harness plugs through the firewall. Everything else was easy peasey.

I have mine on 6T stands from HF up just high enough to get my fat butt under there on a creeper. My garage ceiling is only 8 feet and I had plenty of clearance.

Having issues with the engine coming out. The entire front end comes off the ground. I followed the instructions from the CD on engine removal. Are there any gotchas to getting this out?

Assuming everything is disconnected the most likely issue is the flywheel hanging up on the bellhousing. Lift the engine up until you start to feel resistance then use a pry bar to move the engine forward until the flywheel clears. When it clears the engine should pop up a few inches and then you're good to go.

Now that I think about it I didn't even use a pry bar, just used the chains to pull the engine forward while rotating it back and forth until it cleared. I had also made sure that the transmission was pushed as far back as possible to provide maximum clearance at the bellhousing.
