Default 928 Reliability vs 951

one of the 928 guys once told me that at least 89% of the 928's ever made still on the road today, I found out to be true, only 11% made it home.

Definitely before its time. Negative camber is where it's at.

And that is why you replace the early aluminum ball joints...

The fact that the ball joint gave out is clearly reflected by the poor general appearance of the car.
Treating the car one way and expecting different results from it's parts is idiotic.
And I don't care what car we're talking about.
Making a comparison that includes only one car is idiotic too.

This poll was done over 8 years ago, the poll showed that there was a larger number of 928's not running compared to anothe P-cars, btw the thread still there if we would like to continue to see more results.

Just statistical evidence supporting 928s can still be bought cheap but that's where the cheap ends.

One thing I like about the 928 is that it is a 928 and not some internal code that the rest of the world has never heard of.

I like 928s... Just like with most out-of-the-box vintage Porsches they have that annoying feature of a poor power/weight ratio, and it's not a straightforward job to correct it... this is where we 951 folks are spoilt and should always be aware about it.

I drove a late '91 GT with sport shocks last week and I enjoyed it for what it is worth... but the car is so heavy I think the automatic trans may make more sense in such a car... I drove six 5-speed 928s so far, but none with the AT.

Just my 0.02€ worth.

I've owned a 951S and a 951 and 4 other 944's along with a bunch of other Porsches including a pristine 930. I have owned 7 928's and still have two. I am always drawn back to 928's for some reason. They are just such a nicer car than a 944 of any series. Here in Oz a 89 951 here was approx $165K new. The 89 928 an eye watering $240K. 944's have always felt a little cheap to me. Don't take that the wrong way. I still think they are a great car, but very different in all respects to the 928.
Forgot to add the 928 has much more road presence as well.

78 and 84, properly maintained, just turn the key and go.

I don't believe your example is the gold standard for 928's, but if posting a picture of a poorly maintain car broken down makes you feel all better about yourself and your choice of car...all I can say is...what a little world your mind must live in.
