I will fix the belly pan after I do the MM's in the fall.

Hey Seth, unrelated, but in regards to MM, consider doing the tranny mounts at the same time. Especially if you use the aftermarket Volvo motor mounts, they sit a little higher IMO.

Same part number in the later versions of PET from 78-86. Have they always been the tinfoil aluminum, or was there ever a stamped steel version?

I keep thinking this part would be perfect for scanning and Additive Manufacturing using a high temperature plastic or sintered metal.

Anyone ever done that for NLA 928 parts?

Early ones were steel. Heavy! (Note: 'strut' braces -80 were also made of steel.)

Even thought the part number does not change there is some minor variation in the aluminum ones over the years, as I recall.

(Aluminum types have extra stamping along the rear edge for strength.)

85 is slightly different than earlier 16V cars to accommodate the larger alternator dia.
We had a bunch of them side by side one day comparing them, several from 84 and from 85/6

Must be at least 3 versions then, as here are two aluminum pans, one with a reinforcing rib (from a very original '80 at Mark's):

Vs. one without the rib, pedigree unknown. Not sure which came first, rib or no rib. My guess would be no rib (?)

And it would seem the paint sticks better to steel...

Crumpler: Will do! Makes sense, I will add the transmission mounts to my shopping list. I am still undecided as to the Porsche vs. Volvo motor mounts, but I can see the need to replace the transmission mounts to keep the system relatively level.

Porken: You've just answered a question for me. The damaged strut brace from the Red Witch was aluminum. The replacement of questionable origin was steel. Now I know where it came from. Thanks!

Just searching thru the forum posts and ran across one where in Sept 2015 Roger states he is having these belly pans reproduced.

Post #6 on this one - https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...pan-to-s3.html

Roger, did this endeavor fall thru? Or are you secretly holding out on us?

The steel was plated before painting (which is why the pan above looks shiny in spots).
