Seven Years Ago: Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, 928 Motorsports put down a 13:46 pass over the 12-mile, 156-turn gravel/dirt/asphalt mixed surface (it is all asphalt today) and secured a 3rd place in the Open Division, and was the fastest 2WD car.
We were running a blown CIS motor, and the A/F ratio in the upper altitudes was pretty sick. You can hear it on the video. But, she made it! !

Love this pic - blurry because its pulled from the in-car video.
Spectators had set up lawn chairs on the outside of one of the corners. Idiots.
I had a beautiful drift going and I was not about to lift. So I let the car glide out there and I figured they'd move... I can admit to a smile crossing my face...

Here's the video. You can really hear the K-Jet stumbling in the upper altitudes. The WUR was well out of its range, even with our mods to it.
Brushing back the spectators is at 3:52
Nice view at 7:06

Carl,
Quite a "brown trouser" job once you get past the treeline [and also for some campers]!
That was an excellent achievement by any standards and there should have been a first place class award for a two wheel drive car. You can see from the video just how light the steering response was once you were on the graded roads.
I can highly recommend Carl's book if it is still in print.

I've always wanted to drive Pike's Peak. But now that they paved it, they took the fun out of it
It was really cool to see a 928 remain competitive way out of its normal comfort zone. Way to go
