Convertible Conversion on eBay...

I don't know anything about the car other than what's on Ebay. However, it looks like for about $2,000 you can buy the car. That, plus another $40,000 (if you do a lot of the work yourself), and you'll have a decent 928 spyder. It looks like the car needs a new interior, body work, and it's been sitting for years -- so it probably needs a lot of mechanical work, too. Maybe it'll only cost $30,000. There are worse ways to spend money (if you've got it to spare).

I don't know about you guys, but that seat looks all the world like Recaro Classic C's (same as in AMG Mercedes and the Geneva show car 928) - they go for about 2k a pair alone..lord knows what condition but I was thinking about bidding just for those and then parting the rest. No matter what if you part the thing it's worth it but to save it could be even cooler - I like the way the rear deck isn't "flat" like most of the convertible conversions.

Not that I need another project, but I have been conversing with the seller. Apparently the PO had a stroke while the project was in process and his extended family is selling off the car. It is said to have been driving a year ago, and is said to run now, although that has not been tested. The sellers believe the registration was current a year ago, and are not sure if it was filed pno or not, but claim that there will be at most one year back registration. They sent me a couple of additional pictures but they don't add anything to what is posted.
I think it could be a fun project if:
-The CIS system is not gummed up from sitting
-The cam carrier gaskets don't leak
-the clutch is ok
-the trans is usable
I'm not sure about the state of the top, but things don't look that good. If I got it I would think about making a hard top for it. Also, if someone here picked this up I would be willing to post detailed photos and measurements of the top on my car. I don't think it would be that hard to reproduce.
To me it looks like a pretty typical conversion except that 1) the door treatment is nicer, and 2) the top looks a mess.

Those look like rare seats. I remember Paul Champagne saying a couple of times there were some high end recaros that were options.
Come on Karl, you need another car

So who bought it? I thought I was brave when I took my Spyder project on, but holy crap - this one puts me to shame. At least the price was right as a starting point.
