928s for Sale
1 Attachment(s)
Let’s have a look :burnout:
|
Reading through STG's thread I was thinking the same thing.
I wish we had a 928 sub-forum for ads like we had years ago but that idea fell on deaf ears to bring it back. Going forward, any "random" 928 for sale anyone wants to post about goes in this thread. Members selling their own cars will be the same as always. |
I like this idea. Especially since all I have been doing recently is browsing ads for a potential.
This one already sold, but I thought it was so unique that it needed some pub. Anybody here happen to be the only bidder that won this? 37,000RPM redline? Yeah that'll do! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1984-Porsche...p2047675.l2557 https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...befb805b52.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e79798f32a.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...418a88f1bb.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c0cf17950b.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...a9c68906c9.jpg |
Thank god for this finally.
|
Tony if this thread ruins my late night sniping we are going to have issues....
|
Brilliant.
Thank you SO MUCH for this thread ! ! ! ! |

Congrats Tony and to all who made this happen! I'll be keeping an eye on it. I'm sure it will be a hit. I've always loved the 928! Maybe I'll find one here sometime.

Hey T if it doesn't work out you can always change the name of the thread to "Please Delete" and it will live forever ;-)
|
Have you guys noticed that in the last few days since BC's 86.5 sold for $52K on BAT that the eBay listings for 928s have nearly doubled? Crazy. Last week there were 15 for sale. Now there are 28.

Good idea. What's the holdup - why can't it just be done? (I assume you're talking about a setup like the P&C offshoot of OT) Going forward, any "random" 928 for sale anyone wants to post about goes in this thread. Bad idea. Look, I agree the idea of having all sale ads in one thread sounds good initially. But in reality, it will become time consuming scrolling through a long list of posts, quite possibly to find none that are of interest. A subforum, with properly titled posts, can be scanned very quickly to see if there's anything of interest. Short of a subforum, I fail to see why some people have an issue with for sale posts in the main 928 forum. Not interested? Don't click the thread. There are lots of threads that I don't care about but I don't get upset because they exist. |

Why scroll through pages of posts, perhaps none of which ultimately are of interest to you, when you could peruse a list of sale threads in mere seconds? Thus, I believe a subforum is a better alternative in two ways - it centralizes the sale threads AND puts them in a format that's quickly digested. Just my .928 cents.

Looks good from my house: Only 26,262 miles on this 5spd 88. Appears to be untampered and always garaged judging by it's very nice two tone interior. Bid now at $ 26,011 with 7 days left. T

I recently decided to sell my 1990 S4. When I went to post it in classifieds on Ren, there was no "model" category for the 928 under the "Porsche make" menu. I frustratingly tried to figure it out, but finally ended up posting it in the 911 model category.
https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...l#post13246511 Anyway, I am doubly frustrated that my wife can't see the wisdom of owning both a GT and an S4. I mean, how can I continue my "side by side comparison research" without the S4?! I should have NEVER revealed that the GT is now a dependable driver. Curses! |

This instead of trying to find cars for sale spread out all over RL 928 and mixed in with all other threads. IMHO, most cars intially put up for sale will either sell fairly quickly. If not the OP can lower his price a bit and bump his post ? I feel the moderators will not go with another sub-forum and even if they did, users will not go there much-but what do I know :) T
Just a suggestion. To eliminate junk posts, perhaps you might adopt the random picture thread policy, "stay out unless one has a post about a car for sale". The title needs to clearly state what is for sale and price such as 1986.5 manual 80k miles Meteor grey for $20k etc. Steve |

Hi Steve, Wouldn't that keep people potential buyers away  Most info/pic for any partiular 928 for sale should be linked and include more info of vehicle, price, contact info, etc. One could also type in there own description, add pics etc., to start a post here if no link available. Contact seller(s) through link. :burnout:T
That's exactly the point. One can freely read the thread and contact the seller through links and PM. Every entry should be about a car for sale and should not be a thread that everyone can write a post that says something like "I like it", "nice car", or "it is too expensive" just to clutter up the thread. Without these junk posts, the thread would be much easier to read. The 991 thread has too many commentaries and is simply too cluttered. Steve |

I rarely, if ever, go to the parts forsale section of rennlist, since the search function does very little weeding...and I want to only look at flowers. Although, there are some weeds that have pretty flowers...lol. Brian. |

On this board, the purpose is a little bit different I'm sure, but with the same end goal though. Things will work out fine with this 928 stickie. I wouldn't stress it out too much guys. The 991 one gets 3K views a day. I think this one will be more focused since the 928 has a niche and cult like following. For what it's worth! |

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-928-...m=371613376451 Bottom line: ALL 928s prior to '89 should be considered TMU (Total Mileage Unknown) until proven otherwise. Exactly how one might achieve confidence that stated mileage is actual mileage might entail some of the following: - a record of cluster replacement from a reputable shop (etc.) - detailed records with no mysterious '10-year gaps' - a very, very thorough PPI by a 928 expert. |

If he removed the SC it is still probably worth the $20k. I believe it really puts buyers off.
Then sell the SC separately. |
That car was for sale when I started my search back in May of last year. Same price too. He used to have some pics of the motor and even a video.

This thread has been brought on at the wrong time. Im paying for a wedding, and have no moneys left for my 928 love affair.

Please let us know if anyone found a 928 here and follow up with pics, etc. of your new ride. TIA T

I have reduced the price on my S4 to 17000 or best offer. Please PM if interested. Midnight Blue in great shape and well serviced.

"The seller notes that the A/C, clock and electric door locks are not presently working, though the A/C system is complete."
Then why is the condenser missing and you can see open A/C lines in the photo? Makes me wonder if the compressor is there. That stereo is hideous. Red paint on the gas pedal...how nuts did this guy go with the spray paint? I'm trying to determine if this is the same car that was being serviced in Green Bay 10+ years ago. |

Selling my 1991 S4; $25k; 79k miles; White/Blue; Well maintained, runs great, & has some upgrades. Was my wife's daily driver for 4 yrs, but limited use the past few years & I'm "Jones-n" for a Cayman, so I'd like to part with it.
I have it listed in the PCA Classifieds: https://www.pca.org/classified-ad/314671 If you can't see it on the PCA site, I've attached a pic of the 1st pg of the ad, along with the RL ad when I bought the car from Capt. Earl in '07, and some pics. The F/S section of RL, Auto Trader & Ebay ads to follow when I get the time. I have lots going on right now including the loss of my mom. So if anyone is seriously interested or you have questions or want more pics, you can pm, text, call, or email me & I will get back with you; email might be best right now. As I mentioned, limited time for me to be here on RL at the moment, but I will check in as I can. I also included an ebay ad from last year of a "sister" white/blue '91 S4 that is just 7 Vin #s after mine, with 6k less miles that was fs in South Fla. This '91 was listed at $34,900 & had a high bid of $25,100; I don't know if & what it sold for, but I'll call the dealer at some point. Thanks for any interest. Mel |
Why do I get the feeling this car is one of those whose paint job looks great in pictures but when in person it's awful. (The gas pedal having red shoe print may be a clue). I threw a bid for $928 as I figured at that price it's worth it. It's a LOOOOONG way from being a "nice" car though. I can't stand 'color coding' of parts on a car - why not just leave the parts the way they came? It's one of my pet peeves...It certainly does not make the parts look better...Those door speakers are fabulous - so well integrated...
|
There is so much wrong on this car it will be hard to list. Agree with Hacker, someone went spray paint happy and made it that much worse.
|
I'm on the phone with the guy who installed those seats over 20 years ago.
Wow, what a time warp...... I know two different people in Green Bay who used to own this car. Each of them owned my 79 twice..... it's a long story. |

As long as the seller is realistic on the price it could be an ok car. Has some deficiencies but most 928's do. It's still a Euro S 5 speed...

Aside from being a little red paint happy, missing jump post cover, the rest of the car seems pretty solid. |
AFAIK 78-81 only had jump post cap, no cover. If right price could be a good driver/rolling restoration...a Euro 'S' 5spd is still a great drive and a relatively rare bird in the US.

928 for sale on flee bay Huntington Beach
Hi can any one look at this for me i'am only 6000 miles away cheers all.
|
@vansters – the Euro 928S are 300hp 79-81, and 310 hp 82-86. Both are said to be underrated and actually make 320-350. We were only 10 HP behind in 78-79, (229 vs 219) but a whopping 80 HP behind the 928S 80-84. Porche was tuning 80-84 for mileage not performance – very much ‘malaise’ years in the US. That changed in 85 when we actually got the 288HP 32v BEFORE the ROW…(although they still had 310 HP 16v motors). The early 928S motors (79-81) are non-interference but there is debate regarding the ’82-86. 84 to 86 were M28.21/22 310hp engines. I think you are mistaking build date for MY. |

Doesn't look like to me like Prussian, maybe black or petrol? (Prussian not available in '79, but could be repaint). Man it would be nice to have some eyes on the ground for this one. I see lots of great pieces I could use. Why can't this be near me?

Nice Low mileage 86. Not sure how to distinguish if its 86.5, but looks to be original, and documented.

VIN indicates 86.0, engine bay doesn't really look impeccably maintaned or 46k miles and the perfect leather dash is as perfect as mine at 120k miles (which is to say not very perfect around the passenger side defroster vent.) Rest of the car shows very well though, i hope he gets his price.

VIN is in the ad, it's an 86.0. Seller is also kind of a dealer and has sold a few 928's previously, he would definitely advertise it as an 86.5 if that's what it was.

Unless maybe, he does and spent more time moving OE parts around under the hood than he did research. |
Next, "someone" will chime in and say the chrome wheels aren't OEM.

If the last 4 digits of the VIN are below 1000 it's an 86.0, that is a certainty.

'90 S4 on BAT - ending today (6/2)
This car looks pretty interesting. Two owner 77K miles. Guards red with Black.
http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1990-porsche-928s4/ Bid is less than $8K as of this morning! |
Well, the winning bidder on my bring a trailer auction failed to follow through and pay for the car. If anybody's interested , let me know still for sale.
http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1983-porsche-928/ |
I don't think its strikes many people's fancy as it is not presented well there, it is not described well for its unique features, and its an auto.
I honestly really wish people would pic cars for that site more carefully. I am biased of course, and I feel its a really great venue for unique, well presented cars. That 928 is a craigslist car. |
Yeah, I don't know. I've seen quite a few cars that could be considered "Craigslist Cars" there and this one seems many notches above those. I don't think the auto will effect the interest much. I think it being a red 928 that wasn't yours is what really hurts it. Honestly your car was so well presented, that being a different color to differentiate it would have helped. Regardless, I expect this one to go in the high teens.

People who expect to get top dollar for their car (whatever kind) need to do some research and promote it better. Taking a few photos and listing the service history isn't usually going to cut it unless it's some oddball like a zero mile GTS or something. People poke fun at Wilhoit and his presentations but guess what, it works and there is nothing dishonest about it. You are trying to sell something absolutely nobody needs, you need to give them a reason to want it. It's no accident the average highest prices are at an auction. It's about the frenzy, the excitement, getting your blood pumping so much you keep waving your arm around until your buddy takes your paddle away and hits you with it (true story). |

People poke fun at Wilhoit and his presentations but guess what, it works... I agree that marketing helps to a degree. I think there are saavy buyers that look for cars that aren't marked and presented well in hopes of thinning out the herd and getting a better deal. This S4 on BaT may not get as many bids from non-928 folks, but as you know it only takes two that really want it to make a good sale. In the case of BaT cars marketing probably doesn't play as big a role as in a live auction. The glossy photos and spot lighting that make the car pop are pretty much what a bidder has to go by. But BaT has that added dimension of the commentators, who either can add or detract from the final sale price. It give's the buyer more confidence on what they are bidding and pulls some of the emotion out of it I suspect. |
Man, 14.9k seems a little soft for a '90 with a documented end play check. Is it that hard to do the 25 year import?

It's about the frenzy, the excitement, getting your blood pumping so much you keep waving your arm around until your buddy takes your paddle away and hits you with it (true story). You are so right! The "trick" I employ is to offer the car at a "good price" get it valetted inside/out and try to get a few folks interested. I then arrange to get the interested ones to the car at the same time for viewing and indirectly encourage a "Dutch Auction". Usually does the trick- something in the human psyche triggers a "must have" syndrome or so it seems. On the other hand the same person will beat you down if they perceive they are the only interested party. Similarly, when I left the UK to work out here back in 1990, I had a very nice Ford Capri 3 litre [now collectable]. I had to ditch it so offered it for a rediculously cheap price in the local evening news paper just to offload it. No takers at all- probably thought it was a pile of junk at that price. Reached a point where I was leaving the following day so I had no recourse but to "dump it" at the local auction house. I walked away just about in tears feeling like I had abandoned my child of 10 years! A few weeks later I received a cheque from the auction house for 850 pounds after their fees were deducted! Hopefully the new owner was an enthusiast and I was well pleased with the outcome. The auction will not get you an inflated value but I do believe it helps you realise the "true market value" like the very nice example BC sold recently. Several enthusiasts competing to purchase the real McCoy! I got a buzz just following the bidding in bed at about 2.00am in the morning! Rgds Fred |
At least two people were interested in this car, as the auction price doubled in the final 7 hours. 50 bucks short of $15K bought it.

I want to know what happened to the "Storage Wars" 928 from the previous page. Anyone get it?

This car must have some problems. Sorry posting it again. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-928-...m=112015999334 IF the car was indeed only stolen and recovered without a lot of damage, and the interior options are as built, then this is a good deal. IF there is more mystery involved that includes substantial damage then maybe not. Regardless, this is a 1995 5 speed, the holy grail of 928's. At some point its history wont matter. There are plenty of rare 911 and bathtubs that have been in considerably states of damage and ill repair that still comand strong 6 figures. The 95 GTS will do the same. |

When I was talking with some people recently about the market, it was suggested that people will be dragging these cars out of their garages, putting a coat of wax on them, and shoving them into the light. No prep, no work - just a sale. It makes me a bit concerned - as then, the cycle may continue of misunderstanding and misuse. Even the seller here on BAT is stating himself he is nervous with the car. Oh well. |

But I got spooked, so didn't leave a deposit (I felt 'out of my wheelhouse' in that I'm an OB guy and really know very little about what to look for in a GTS, and also it would be the first 928 that I would have to finance to buy) - owner ( a very nice guy BTW) and I agreed that I would call Monday evening once I secured financing and he would hold the car until then. Talked to some GTS guys at SITM to gather info and this looked like it was the car for me. Secured financing today through classic car loan. Made the call to the owner today to take the car and there was "good news and bad news" - it was available but price now up 6k. Puts me out of the running. Crap -should have left that deposit. This market is definitely 'you snooze you lose'!
So, you went all the way there, made a tentative deal and took the weekend to chew on everything mentally and get your financing (and he agreed to hold the car till Monday)... and then by Monday he said the new price of the car was 6k higher? I mean, I guess that is the seller's prerogative, but man, that doesn't seem like a gentleman's way on his part. Perhaps he has a new offer from someone else. I say: Be glad you walked. 928's values are indeed going up; but a car that has accident history (even a GTS) doesn't go up 6k value in 5 days as far as I have heard. |
/\ agree!
|
Alex, the guy's a dick and I wouldn't buy the car from him under any circumstances. He probably had a couple more calls and thought yank and reprice. Hope he ends up sitting on it from here on in. By the way, a GTS with wreck history is just that - a great big discount. Excellent article on this very subject (plus things like multiple owners) affecting value in the most recent Sports Car Market magazine. A 90K miles car with accident history ain't going anywhere fast. I would not pay $36K for it, that's for sure. For that money, I'm looking for a sorted 89/90 GT, which may be a better car anyway.
|
I agree with the guys here Alex. Shady move and definelty not a man of his word. Here I thought Texans were better than that. Wasn't meant to be. A better deal and a better car is in your future.
|

It's a euro and a 5 speed. Those are good points.
Otherwise, photos are so bad its hard to tell. Interior is pretty much shot - I particularly like the electrical tape holding the shift knob on to the shifter. I would be skeptical about mileage. There are better cars out there for this kind of money. |

Step 3 - Right click on Image that is open fully. Choose "Copy Image Address" or something similar. Step 4 - Add your comments and then choose the picture button from the toolbar on your posting window. Paste the picture URL. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...da7dd2d3fb.jpg I would think posting even the first picture might be enough. I'd also need absolute and empirical evidence of the mileage and maintenance. For that price this car should need nothing.
It's all a matter of perspective. Try finding an early example as clean with original paint or better yet restoring one for less. |

For whatever reason a lot of owners of these cars saw them as temporary transportation, driven just a few months out of the year. Which means low mile, original examples are not plentiful, but also not uncommon. The recent surge in 928 asking prices are an overflow of the 911 value frenzy. Which is a good thing for present owners. |

Would have been a much more interesting car if left red with the burgundy interior, not many of that combination. It also has a GTS rear bumper cover so that was probably added during the repaint. It does have jump post cover and cap so definitely a well cared for car :D

Mine is very similar to this - mileage, year, original exterior / interior quality, mechanically smooth, etc. It's India red (better). Mine is auto though, so this has the manual premium. The one I have has celebrity provenance however... And, a collection of cassette tape albums from '79 (good year for music). Wouldn't expect $60k for a couple of years yet... Although... Thing is, the 911 surge has got into stupid territory. The leap on this 928's price is a little rich but not extraordinary given the crappy beetle-esque (tired engine noise and body deterioration) hawked by Beverly Hills Car Club et al. I mean, it's a pervasive 911 not 'rocking horse s**t' (which great early 928s are becoming). I laugh when people accept inflating GTS prices (gaudy and over-embellished imho) but not the deserved uptick in early pure-Breds. |

Definitely not Mark's car since his is currently undergoing engine out rehab in multiple California locations.

I can give multiple examples of similar cars in the 2-3k range, that come with free parts cars as well. Except they are just a little bit dented, sun ravaged, and sputtering high milers. With a little wax and some carb cleaner they would be a hit at the auctions. All kidding aside, if this is Grandprixweiss's car it's exceptional. I'm interested to see where this will go as 928's tend to do very poorly at traditional auctions. This guy has balls to go no-reserve... I have some nice cars, but none done to this level (as I love to drive mine) but I love ogling the perfect ones. |

I'm pretty sure I've seen this car in person in a parking lot about 2 years ago. The owner of this car and his two kids were walking toward it, so I said hello and that I had a 928. He said he'd spent a lot of money having Taylor Chapman (Chapman Autowerks) do lots of work on it. Taylor is one of the few really good 928 mechanics around the northern Virginia area. The seller has several other exotic cars to play with. This 928 is loud...but it sounded great as he accelerated away. I'm pretty sure this is his house...not a prop.

Looking for 928
Greetings,
I live in Rockland county NY and have been looking for a decent manual 928 for under $10k. So far the cars I have seen have been either complete wrecks or priced at 996 levels. I am planning to daily the car for 80 miles per day on nice weather days (have a wrx for rain and snow). Any help would be apreciated. While I am at it, I would like sage advice on whether I should bite the bullet and spend that 16k or so on 996. I would prefer a nice 928 for under 10k through. That car is special. Thanks Leo |
996 (IMS bearing issue) unless it's a turbo (no IMS issue-different motor). Bump up your budget a little for a nice 928.02 T
|
I had a 2004 996. Great car 110,000 mi. no IMS problem. Check and see if ims has been changed. Very possible its been change already.

Rick - Well...you should have good luck finding work up here in the Ashburn/Leesburg area :) This is actually on the small side compared to what else is in this area. It's becoming like Marin County, CA or Great Falls, VA. There's one community where all the Ferraris and Lambos live off of Rt. 7 that at night is a show - a who has the fanciest and most well lit up house arms race. Hey...it's fathers day...time for more :biggulp:

Maybe he's old. My Weissach's original owner sold it, because he is 89 yrs old and has a Merc SL to drive. Easier on his knees then the manual Weissach with LSD.

91 GT $30K
I have a 91 GT with less then 75K miles. It is black with grey leather interior. I have done a lot of maintenance work on it. I am the second owner. I am asking $30K. If you are interested I can take some pictures. It has been parked in my garage with a cover for the last couple of years and I was about to get it going and put it up for sale.
New Porsche wp and belt a couple of years ago (maybe 5) Replaced all front seals Replaced all shocks with internally adjustable Red Koni's Replaced oil pan gasket Replaced Motor Mounts OEM Replaced AC O rings, new AC compressor, new filter dryer. R12 Cold AC Replaced front belly pan with a steel one from 928 International Replaced the PDK reservoir and flushed the system Replaced the rear driver side wheel well liner with a new original NLA one $$$$ Replaced all the bullbs in the dash New steering rack New inner and outer tie rods New AC head unit Redid wiring in the CE panel so that the AC head unit does not see all the power and has a relay in the circuit. New front rotors, pads & sensors New fuel filter Complete tool kit, spare, gloves, belts and sleeve. New floor mats New clutch, throw out bearing, pressure plate, pilot bearing That's all I can think off at this time. Sorry no pictures as yet. |

This is an important auction event. A mid year OB USA car, automatic, in not a particularly exciting color combination, bringing north of $32K with buyer premium. ...all on the same day as Brexit market mayhem! http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Event...HE-928S-196079 |

Pretty clean engine bay. An above average driver. As a reference, most of the 928s at Hershey were nicer than this car.

Hey guys...kinda embarrassed to even be posting this - since I am so new to the forums and owning a 928 ...but sadly, some RL home repairs have come up and unfortunately the first thing that must go is my 85 928 Euro I recently purchased. To see pictures and read through the options you can take a look at the thread when I purchased it.
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ost-cover.html Since then I have had it gone through by Matt at TPWS here in Austin (feel free to call him to get the info) (http://www.tpwsinc.com/), usual stuff + AC rebuilt. Running and cooling great. I can send over the recent maintenance records for those interested. Other than that, not much on the history side. CarFax goes all the way back to 86 and I appear to be the third owner. It's gutting me a bit, but it is what it is and I can always get another...anyways...looking to get 18k for it. That is 13k purchase and 5k for the work that was done. Rather it go to someone here...if no one is interested, I will throw it up on BaT or the Bay...... Feel free to PM - thanks much guys. |

Be very careful of that one. The seller is untrustworthy - look at the front passenger fender, which is hard to see, but it is clearly damaged with an outward bend/kink. No clear picture of it, nor any mention, which means an attempt to conceal. That coupled with a 91.7% seller ebay rating screams stay away.

Rare color OB in Boise - Light Green Metallic/Cork
I've known about this car for a while, now the kid that owns it wants to sell, I'm trying to talk him out of selling it, and would buy it myself but I'm trying to buy a commercial building first to house some of my cars so no go right now. He has some of the rare pieces that go with car as well..nice kid, car is a little rough but great car to restore and cool story of the lady that first owned it. If you want your Kermit clone now is your Chance.. Trust me, light green metallic cars don't come by very often...

I love that colour! I hate that colour!
|
That is a nice find Alex, and I agree, an excellent platform at a very reasonable price for a restoration. That car will be quite valuable at some point in the not too distant future.
|
I have to say at the moment I'm a bit contrarian. The early automatic cars have been dogged on for so many years (with the exception of Roger) that they are the last remaining "cheap" 78-79's. However, there are several folks figuring out how to retrofit 6 spd automatics. Combine that with the dearth of manual parts and the automatic cars in rare colors may be the 'dark horse' pick. Buy them when you can!

http://bringatrailer.com/listing/198...omment-1115687 Hard to say with those miles. Decent shape and good records though. Will be interesting to see how it goes. I am going to guess below 20k; but who knows?! The market is higher every time I look it seems. I hope it sells above. That's a really nice driver. |

The seller's ad has been up and down during the past 6 weeks. Started at ~6-7,000, now giving it away, almost. Give it another 1-2 days and it may go back up. Or maybe its a scam. Or someone here bought it!

Frankenporsche :) Red GTS Mirrors, S4 Rear and Front and Chrome/Non-Chrome Phone Dials on an 82 that has been off the road for 12 years. BAT - '89 5 speed, VIN ends in 1091
This looks to be an attractive car. Dealer sale. Listed as an '89 5 speed. but must be a GT. LOTS of time for bidding!

'78 in CT with a beautiful interior...
Doesn't always have to be Pascha I guess - I quite like that, and honestly, if my shop would be finished already, I'd take the short ride to look at it, but I just don't have any more damn room. Not stock exhaust and I don't think the color is stock either?

'94 GTS on BAT
Another interesting car, located just north of Richmond VA, originally TX car. White with grey 58K miles, Rogerbox transmission. Has some Paul Champagne leather touches.
http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1994-porsche-928gts/ Again, lots of bidding time left. |
Can't believe this. Seems like alot of people are trying to ride the recent 928 wave on BAT.
'89 S4 Baltic Blue, 5 spd, linen interior. Bidding has already surpassed $20,000 with almost a whole week left. http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1989-4/ |
The GTS on BAT is Jim Morrison's old car - man, did he sell that thing too cheap. From all accounts the car was perfect. I hate to say it but pulling out the Paul Champaign stuff and replacing with stock may yield more at auction, and then one could still sell the Champaign items as well separately. Holy crap GTS cars are really getting hot, along with the OB's, Euro's and 86.5's....

yikes - he must not want to sell the car. I am always astounded at how people can throw really crappy pictures up on a for sale item and have any expectation of success. That communicates carelessness of such a high order, which would leave me to believe hat is how the car was taken car of too.
You can one chance to make a first impression. |

Certainly a pretty car. Paint looks and reads like they did it right. Nice cadmium re-plating done. Interior looks fresh too.... but damn, that is a strong asking price for a car with that many km's/miles.
The poster does reference a better condition 1978....

Nicest '78 I've ever seen...worth every penny as the paint job alone on the '79 car would be 20k - really top notch job, let alone all the little OEM bits Drew collected. Sorted and just about perfect. No way to duplicate for the $$....Andrew is really great guy who knows his 928's also. Worth a trip to the farm in CT just to see the cars and pick his brain.

$50K is what I had in mind also. May make a trip up there Tuesday. Anyone in the area available?

Communicated with him earlier last month, and he seems very open to appraisals and PPI. I need to sell off some of my other 928s, before my SO will let me buy this beauty.
I agree, but I would offer $48 and pay $50. Plenty of GTS now appearing on ebay during the past 6 months.

Talked briefly with the sales manager at a BMW dealer who is the point man for his boss who bought the car in January to add to his collection. Even though the listing states: "This car was meant to stay with me for a while as I believe this is a car that continues to increase in value especially with the records and condition of the vehicle but the wife dictates the sale, and this is VERY true in this case." Does make me wonder and be weary of such statements. The owner was out of the country until Monday. The salesman, Mike couldn't give me a whole lot of info other than what was in the listing.
HLEE96 did you talked to the actual Owner? |
No, like you, it was actually through an associate.
|
Hmm. Told me the actual owner, Pat Womack may call me Monday. He gets back from participating in LeMans.

Oops wrong thread.

I think with all the recent interest and sales of the earlier cars that prices have started to cool off on the GTS. My theory is that before BC's 86.5 brought all the money on BaT, that collectors viewed the GTS as the only 928 model having any long term investment potential. Now people are starting to feel the train leaving the station on all 928s. And all those would be GTS buyers are now looking to plunk their money down on well sorted OBs, GTs, and S4s (see the '89 that just brought $35K at BaT). This means that those $70-80k GTSs are getting overlooked for early cars with better upside. Which ironically, IMO, may eventually make the GTS the best bang for the buck. |
Being a last year of the production run and limited to 77 to the U.S. (?), basically a one owner until January 2016, may not be a bad investment. If you could ever call a 928 an investment. LOL. I will report back after I see it in person.

Anyone knows how hard is it to import a Canadian car younger than 25 yrs old?

Very nice looking '79 auto but why would the odometer be in km when the car is US? Unless the odometer is replaced and not stated. Otherwise a very nice car. Does anyone know this car?

But my '84 has a KM speedo/odo and is a US VIN car. So not unprecedented for that to happen. In my case there is no documentation on why it was replaced. |

Must have a good healthy motor because it is wired for "nutritious"
"Like new, low miles mint condition, import approved not modified to meet safety standards, cream white, brown leather interior, pictures so as it is always stored in garage, never saw snow or rain, 5 spread, wired for nutritious, but can be made stock at a cost," |

+1 for a report back on the Detroit nitro special.
Thanks Ron |
Here is an OB Euro. Originally an Italian car, came over 2-3 years ago to Texas, now for sale in Chicago. I drove it, its a pretty straight car that drives out nicely and makes great power. Not sure if AC works.
Priced a little high but overall a pretty clean car that only needs little things. http://north-shore-autosport.ebizaut...-15011905.html |
Anyone know about this one?

Just looking at the condition of the stickers and engine bay the Detroit car seems pretty legit.

Actually, my 84 will become a low mile car in the future. While cruising down the road on the way to work Friday, went to push the foglight switch (since I'm waiting for a headlight combination relay and needed some lights)...and pushed the speedo reset instead. So now...she sees miles that no one else will...lol. But, I'll order a new gear this week...and keep the unseen miles to a minimum...not that I'm looking forward to removing the pod. Hate interior work, l say, hate it. Brian. |

Here, here. I am sick and tired of red 928s, although I have one myself. I would have loved a yellow or light blue single stage paint on a GT. Good thing I didn't wait to find one though, because there are practically none around!!! I think 1 yellow in the US and 2 light blue ones?

It's a plus that the above car is at a Monterey auction, but I would not sell it through Mecum. Mecum is great for American iron, but not the best for specialty classics and exotics; wrong audience. Seller will not get the best bids IMHO.

Agree, but all you need is the engine. Body parts are a bonus. Euro WUR is worth at least 3-500, same with FD. Euro intake, throttle body, cams and heads.
If it costs less than 500 to ship, I would've taken it.

Reason for low mileage over the past couple of years is tragic and makes sense...
The original owner's widow couldn't bear to part with the car given that her husband had spend a fortune on getting the car back up to spec to enjoy in his twilight years. Which, sadly didn't come as he died shortly after commissioning circa. $30,000 of work. This 928 is in incredible condition mechanically and aesthetically. |

Anyone know if the repaint is close to Porsche original? http://www.ebay.com/itm/131862670105...84.m1555.l2649 Would be wise to contact this person to find out more about the cars history and have someone in the area lay some eyes on her. Judging by the interior, appears the car was stored indoors most of its life which is a big plus. Car was painted the original color and looks like it was done right. Lots of interest in this car-62 watchers and the price is right.02 T |

I'm talking about the reported mileage. Not how old he is. The service history from years ago does not match with the stated mileage on eBay that does not tally with the sellers statement that he has only driven it 200-miles and also doesn't map to the mileage on the speedometer in the car from the photos. There is something up and he hasnt responded to repeated requests on this issue (but answers others from me).
A: Odometer was working intermittently when purchased and HAS STOPPED working . The Bakelite drive gear in these are notorious for age failure. They make a replacement out of better material which I was going to install but never got around to it. The history reports were done just before the owner passed away. The widow did not want to part with the car for sentimental reasons so sat in her heated garage until she decided to sell her property to move closer to her daughter. I purchased the car in Spring 2015 essentially 4 years after it was last serviced without putting any miles on it. When I checked the oil (synthetic Amsoil per the service report) it was obviously new oil. I am an Amsoil dealer so once it was in my shop I changed it again and checked all other fluid condition and they were fine. I drove it on short trips to make sure the car had no issues , hence the approx. 200 miles. Its probably closer to 100. It sits covered in my climate controlled shop . I drove to work and back (50 miles ) and filled it with 91 octane , non ethanol fuel, to make sure there were no issues before listing. The odometer gear is available on EBAY but I am preoccupied with the sale of my building so have not performed the work, There is a youtube on how to do it. It was also recommended I remove the seat covers because it looks like I was trying to hide something (NOT,see my 100% feedback). The front seats are fine and this weekend I will remove the covers and take pics of the front seats. The brakes squeal a little until they are hot and the adjustable shocks are set very firm ( corners with almost no roll). Those are the only 2 other issues I intended to fix but were not show stoppers Nice car, you wont be disappointed. Have an appointment for showing at 1pm on Sunday. Contact me with any more questions before then if you are serious . 970-812-3545, Jeff Why not give Jeff (seller) a call ? T |

It is saveable but who's brave enough? No reserve... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-928-...m=371697875286 |
1989 GT on eBay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-928-...m=282113794461 Serviced by none other than Mr. Greg Brown. Best part is Greg's sweet stache made it into the ad. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...841816bfcc.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...147db7380b.jpg |
If you look closely, Greg was repairing the block after water pump damage. Last time this GT went through ebay 2 weeks ago, failed to meet reserve at >$20,000. Even with all the CS wheels, extra muffler-y-pipe and all, I think $20k was the right price for a close to 200,000 miles GT with a damaged block history.
Having GB did the work BEFORE left moved few years ago help and probably the only safe thing about bidding on this car. I love this car and I bidded on it, but I don't love it more than $20,000.

Easy, Brian... - nice pieces but wrong spare...I know you would buy for spare alone..it could provide a LOT of 78 parts, though. Keep in mind it's #104 US which puts it around #400 or so build number. Automatic also, but likely one of the first few autos built.
However, considering the amount of parts I have off #613...I could possibly turn this into a driver. Interior is in remarkably good shape, besides carpet, and I like the brown. Inserts in seats are kind of weird, but for a OB driver...might be funny. I'm going to keep an eye on it...and as long as my wife is not keeping an eye on me...there is a slim chance for success. http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Porsche/9...PO&orup=5_15_6 Then there is this one in the Netherlands that I think I'd have to jump on if it were up here in Canada. Love that color. http://autoleitner.nl/nl/index/aanbod/1465077170 |

Wow! That color is great. Velvet Red Metallic or Samrot. How rare is that color? That car is so well presented also.
The Porsche 928 GT is now an icon among Porsche enthusiasts and this is the best of the series as the GT version is supplied only with manual transmission. This car is in my childhood made an indelible impression crushing. Great sound, great traction for his bizarre time good brakes and especially with the GT to take very fast corners. On the one hand a comfortable touring car, the other a super fast sports car with its 330 horsepower 5.0 liter V8 32v. Equipped with the extremely rare color L81L Velveteen Tred metallic or also called Samtrot metallic. This color provides a fresh and striking appearance. Also rare are the sports seats in this instance with oversized cheeks. It is an original Dutch car. Demonstrable from the 2nd Dutch owner since 1992. The state is really great! Rightly in A1 condition. Beautiful stable investment with great potential. US/Canada had airbags in '90'91. ROW started in '92 IIRC.
|
Dang, that GT has me rethinking my retirement portfolio.
