Handcuffs....

Could be something was lying on it and it just needs to puff back out, which mine will do when I leave something on it. If it is a permanent dent, it would be any easy fix....

Probably from rear seat coitus--there's not a lot of room back there. Kidding aside, under that vinyl or leather skin is a plastic shell with a thin layer of foam over it. It's easy to get mashed down while hauling stuff and it looks like the foam didn't rebound. A lot of 928 owners know this lid well as it's common for the glue holding the vinyl to give up the ghost and require regluing. If you weren't comfortable doing it yourself, would be easy to remove it and send it to a pro that should be able to reuse the vinyl.

Thanks. Yea, I have a great auto upholstery shop near me to take a look at it. The eBay listing just ended. I sent the seller an e-mail. We'll see what happens next.

I see that Bill's GTS sold. I think that that was strong money for a $100k+-mile 928. I'm super-happy for Bill. At least I think I should be.

I'm a bit puzzled though. 5 or so years ago a 100k-mile GTS, even a 5-speed would have sat around for a while with a ~$45k asking price. Is Bill's ex-GTS a paragon for today's market in general or was there something 'special' about it that added significant value? I have my own ideas about that, but...

What do the rest of you think?

I think it has to be the lack of GTS 5 spd available for sale during the recent run up of 928 prices that drive this car to where it is. In the beginning of the auction, I figured that the car would’ve brought in $65-75k due to various factors.

1. Recent maintenance done by greg brown
2. Owned by an enthusiast
3 still had some issues with it (Ac leak) but otherwise a “cheap” GTS 5 spd being made available.

In the recent 5 spd GTS market, there were a couple high mileage (>80k miles) GTS that were sold quickly asking $80k. Low mileage GTS are all asking $129k and above (not sure of sold prices).

“Chuck’s GTS” the one with gray metallic with maintenance done by Sean ratts were sold very quickly once asking deceased to $85k.

That is the market.

5-speed, nice color combo, and unmolested. Also original wheels, stereo and CD player. Those three things alone would be $6K+ to make right. I was more surprised to see that Greg used a Lasso water pump than anything.

Any guesses on the extent to which these two factors added value?

Sagging headliner and some minor paint chips were the only other obvious and notable visible blemishes I can remember. Shannon is a nice guy to deal with and bought the 5-speed '84 Euro with pasha interior that is in the sold section on their website. If you are interested PM me and I will send you a link to the pictures and videos I took of the car.

I bought this one (not at sticker price and after it had been shipped to california) nice to see you saying something nice about it.

When I look at 928s to buy, I look at how much I have to "put into it" for the inevitable catchup maintenance, and this will be my negotiating point/max price when I approach the seller. If the asking is reasonable and receipts show $20k of work recently done by the right people (Greg, Sean, Colin, Stan, Pete, you, etc) that I know I don't have to spend, then I know there isn't much wiggle room.

Not sure if there is "added value" in as much as "negotiating margin".

I used Michael Strahan's recent Aventerine Green 5 spd that he bought on BaT with less miles but maintenance not as extensive as Bill's car as comp. Sold about the same price +/-5%.

However, if there is someone who wants to sell their 5 spd GTS for $45-50k now, I am game! No need for any special "Greg Brown" or "enthusiast owned" premium.

I know of a high mile red/tan 5sp that might fill that bill
