928s for Sale

Hello everyone. I’m looking to buy my first 928 and first Porsche in general. I’ve found a few 944s and one 928 for sale near me. I just want to know what you all think of this one, I know it’s rough, but the price reflects that. I know the interior is basically completely stripped, but i feel that i could get it for a good price and begin work to bring it back to life. And I’d love to have one to be able to work on some as well as drive. Let me know what you all think.
It would take a small fortune to bring that car back and personally I'd only do that if I had a sentimental attachment to it. The tried and true advice is, buy the best 928 you can afford within your budget. You'll be much happier and money ahead.
IMHO that would be a horrible first Porsche or 928 for someone like you who's just starting out. BUT if you do buy it, there's a company called 928 International in California that has a half-price sale from Thanksgiving to Christmas on used parts. I think you'd be able to source most of what you'd need from them. Here's their URL: http://shop.928intl.com/ Recommend you flip through their site and add up what you'll need before you pull the trigger.

First Porsche.
Thank you for that advice. The owner now said the previous owner stripped the interior with the intention to track it, then found a FI 928 and bought it to track instead. If I don’t get this one, which I’m going to see in person today, then I’ll probably get a 944 since there are a few for sale around me, one of which the seller says has “skipped time” but it’s only $500. The others are good, running examples but I’m just having a hard time deciding what would be best for me. I love the V8 aspect but if it would be too much for me to handle I’ll try with the 944.. just looking for advice.

Update on my car hunt!
My best advice would be to go to a 928 get together near you if you can. Talk to the owners and see what you're getting in to. If you do decide to pull the trigger (and I hope you do), chances are good they'll "know a guy" who's selling one. Many of us were burned on our first 928, I think all of us would go out of our way to help someone like you avoid the mistakes we made.

Be patient Dylan...
Another car will show up near to you. Use your time in the meantime to study carefully the Sticky thread with all of the tips and tricks, and go ahead and order the disc from Roger with the shop manuals, etc. on it and start reading.
Others have said this as well - the more you know before you find another car to look at the better - and you will have a better idea going to look at the next one as to what repairs you can handle and how much anything you can't do will cost you, which will give you negotiating power!
PS - I drove 944s as well when looking for my car and hands' down, the 928 wins every time.
Good luck with the search!

A car many of us have seen before at various times now for sale on BAT:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1985-porsche-928s-13/
I make two predictions. 1. Reserve will not be met. 2. The seller will get into it with somebody when negative comments are made.
I can't count the number of times I have seen this car for sale since 2012. The seller either does not want to sell it and lists it to make somebody in his life happy or has a very distorted view of the car's actual value. I would have bought it in a heartbeat if the asking price wan't insane and stayed that way.

Interesting potential here. Cool original color with pinstripe cloth interior, low miles and no sunroof. If you are looking for a project and would have to respray anyway, this one you could put back to its original color and have a pretty unique OB IMO. If it were me I'd go the extra mile and remove the rubbies during the respray.
