the problem with the 82 is that it is a 3 speed. For those with 3 speed Roger boxes, what do you say? Seems one gear too short to me?
I have the 3 speed in the Weissach and the 4 speed in Chiffon. Acceleration is about the same (which is to say, middlin'), the highway over 85 mph is somewhat less frenetic with the 4 speed. You have to have an appreciation for the rest of the car - the comfort, quality and handling as 0-60 performance is not their forte. The above mentioned car is a steal for under 10k - it would be mine if I didn't have to have exhibit restraint due to purchase of a commercial property to house these darn things.
1988 928 5 speed, Guards red with black interior. Sharkbody's (George) car is now for sale. St. Petersburg FL. (727) 864-6430. I am having problems downloading pics but there should be plenty of pics on the Renn.
Bump for Doreen's post about George Appun's car. George's car was very well maintained and very smooth running when I got to drive it many years ago. George (RIP) was a great guy to be around and was taken way too soon.
Doreen, if the car is still available, let us know and one of us can help you get pictures posted.
Hate to part with this, but life is re-ordering my priorities. Sorry if the link isn't connected. See it on Craigslist Lexington KY. 1987 S4 automatic; 107,000 miles.

Yeah, but what if a guy just wants to mount it on a pole in his front yard?
Seriously though, does CA prevent ownership of cars that won't pass smog even if you don't register them? What if the buyer wants to restore and resell it to an out-of-state owner. Seems to me Mecum can't legally not sell it to a CA resident.

Legally having it pass Ca. emissions is the responsibility of the seller. A buyer could buy the car then potentially spend a bunch making it pass smog and then go back after the seller for the costs.
Agree, but all you need is the engine. Body parts are a bonus. Euro WUR is worth at least 3-500, same with FD. Euro intake, throttle body, cams and heads.
If it costs less than 500 to ship, I would've taken it.
