Whoa! I read some of the posts. This thing is a rebuilt wreck. Wreck on the track so no CarFax evidence. I'm forgetting this one. May call the owner and ask if all I read is true!

If it has a GT engine and GT gear box (that aren't destroyed) you could get $10k by patiently parting it out. Min. IMO.

Might take a year or two, but at some point someone will want the real-GT 'big' bits.

I already have a spare GT engine. I could use a spare GT transaxle. I'll give you $3850 for the transaxle (inclusive of shipping) out of this one (if the code is a GT tranny code.)

Now all you need to do is get this GT for $10k or less and you're almost 1/2-way to break-even...

To assist further in getting this FrankenGT into the organ banks, I'll pay $1500 for ALL of the PSD bits (pump, accumulator, solenoid, stub harness to wheel well, mounting bushings, etc.)

There: anyone that ends this Malformed Monster's life has a conditional pre-sale for $5350 of selected organs. And the prize bit: the GT motor is still there.

Don't think it's the same car, went to see it last week. Car is cherry, a solid 8.5. but it's black.. Good luck keeping it clean! I think seller is testing the price, Hopefully he comes down a bit more so I can move on it!

Saw this GTS on the Trader, still need to see in person. This is very tempting, but it's an auto

The VIN on the E-bay ad is the same one as the "Surfrider Mason" rebuild. That car was badly damaged in an "off track excursion" and had the front end totally replaced from a donor car. By all accounts, it was done well. But that doesn't change the fact that it is basically a salvage rebuild.

The owner in the thread that was selling it a few years ago was at least a bit shady.

He posted it for sale a few times, and every time touted the "clean Carfax".

Here's one of the threads:

Don't see any pictures of an accident on this that thread, I guess anything is possible on the internet. It's definitely not this car. Car I saw was sweet, would be sweeter if it was priced lower!!

VIN doesn't lie but I understand how you will trust your own eyes (who's owned more than 40 928s through the years) more than what many people had said about the same car over many years in multiple forum threads. It dropped from $39k to $29k so maybe you will buy it at $25k? If the GT is truly a 8.5/10, $29k is actually quite reasonable. You should reconsider and buy it. I am not that fortunate nor courageous enough to risk $29k in this car.

Good luck

I even learned to drive in a 928, don't think anyone can pull a quick one on me. One thread without pics and no documentation from questionable sources? Not reliable in my book.
There's even a blue GTS in nappa Valley that's for sale without pictures. I researched the vin and it pops up on rennlist with members swearing it used to be red....it's not.---never was, seller gave us the build code. The internet allows anyone who's owned less than even 10 Porsche to suddenly become an expert. , sad for newbies looking for advice..

It's a good deal, but with 95k miles---it's not a collectible(I know on this forum will disagree). Been searching for a keeper for a while, I've ruled out all pre-89 years because of their odometer issues. If a nice one with under 50k miles pops up, I'm on it.

Post #3 in the thread linked to above contains the original for sale link, with photos showing the same VIN:

https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...-for-sale.html

From the previous owner:
I didn't know this at time of purchase, but at some point in the cars past it was in an front end collision that deployed the airbags. Front end was rebuilt, and drives straight as an arrow. Most importantly, the carfax/title is clean..
Something is definitely fishy since the mileage listed today is less than 2014.

Here it's in Maryland:

https://topcheapcar.com/car/Used-199...JB2920LS860276

Here is the Miami listing:

Here is the original thread where Mason shared the resurrection project. Unfortunately the photos have been scrubbed when his website went down. I'm sure someone has a copy of them.
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ection-gt.html

In that thread some referenced that being "Joe's" old car - Joe who? I'm not recalling it.

Not only that. This same car was on sale on craigslist several weeks ago for $17-18k in Florida and I remembered the black intake clearly, just not enough so that I asked the Rennlist members here if we've seen this car before today. I trust the fellow members here.

This link from 2014:
https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...-for-sale.html
Mileage is listed as 97,500

Current listing on Autotrader the mileage is 95,459
https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ngId=465160457

That must be in the member to member classifieds you cannot see? Here is the listing:

Before the listing totally expires, here is the verbiage from it (same VIN) mileage listed at 94,000. So I'm guessing he fat-fingered the mileage in the classified listing above.

928

Make: Porsche

Up for sale is my Ultra-Rare - black on black - 1990 928 GT with 94,000 miles on it. There's probably less than 100 of these that exist in America today.

I hate to sell it, but the car is simply out of my league as far as time/maintenance is concerned.

"The Beast" runs great and turns heads everywhere it goes. It's a pure thrill to drive.

Timing belt & water pump replaced about 4 years ago with only a couple thousand miles on both.

Back tires are OK but needs new front tires (You might get another 200 miles out of the fronts).

Exterior/paint I'd rate as a 7.5/10

Interior I'd rate a 9/10 (original steering wheel included with sale)

Mechanical I'd rate a 6.5/10 (possible to bring up to a 8-9/10):

Here are the mechanical issues:

PSD/ABS is disabled - took it to Porsche to have it checked out. They said it needs either a new ABS/PSD computer, ABS pump, or could be as simple as flushing the ABS fluid. I have a replacement PSD/ABS computer module and ABS pump that I am including with the sale. Both are used, and are said to work, but I don't have the tools to test them.

Needs headlight motor replaced, working replacement motor included.

Engine block is dripping small amounts of oil. Porsche tells me this is common with 928s of that era. The seals will need to be replaced eventually.

Lastly, I didn't know this at time of purchase, but 6 years ago the car was in a front end collision that deployed the airbags. Front end was rebuilt by a team of specialists. All paneling lines up and car drives straight. Car has been driven thoroughly since, and have had zero issues with the car in this regard.

With that said, the title is clean.

The car also has a few upgrades, including: MOMO steering wheel, performance suspension & exhaust, and solid motor mounts.

Overall, this 928GT runs and sounds great, but needs the care of an experienced owner to bring it back to its former glory.

Car sold as is, and is located in Baltimore, MD.

Buyer must handle shipping.

I accept cash or Bank of America certified bank check.

Let me know if you have any questions/interest.

-Dan

PS:

Watch video walkthrough of the car here:

https://youtu.be/vqJEhJvsJWE

Let's just say that people LOVE this car.
