Yes Nate, he had a vision alright, it was just slightly impeded by the smoke he was blowing out of his mouth...

Did you guys see the black 89 that sold on BaT last week for under $9,000?? That made my heart sink. That car had less miles than mine (143K) and was freshly repainted in glorious black. It seemed like a great car! What is wrong with the values on these things? I still remember the silver 87 with 100K miles that sold for $18K, which was so ludicrously modded I started calling it the Batmobile.

Well I'll just say that as the new owner of this 89 S4, my heart soared when the gavel fell! I've learned a ton lurking in this forum for over a year now, and of course in the forums on the (many) 928 auctions on BAT. Much thanks to all of you frequent posters, looking forward to contributing to this community as I learn more about the car.

Particularly glad to see that the blemishes on my car triggered a philosophical clash between Nate, Hoi and this Weissach character. I know where I stand on the issue - knowledgeable, experienced people should speak up and everyone else should just STFU, listen, and learn.

On balance, both buyers and sellers benefit far more than they are ever harmed by educated commenters. In my limited experience watching 928 auctions, the overriding determinant of price is timing of auction close. Hit on a Friday or a weird peri-holiday like 7/5/17, and you're more likely to get lucky solely due to people not being at work hammer-refreshing BaT at 2:30pm.

Anyway, I'm really excited to into my first 928, and much thanks to the seller, NC928S4, who is a great guy and has taken great care of the car over the past 6 years.

Welcome!!! Great car at a great price!!!

Forthright introduction I might add, and, as with that "weissach character" you are able on this forum to say what you feel (within the bounds of decency of course).

Looking forward to reading of your journey with that beautiful beast.

Congratulations and welcome! I think you did very well. I think the cosmetic issues are easily addressable (and probably helped keep the price down, although timing was probably the dominant factor). At that purchase price, you have the budget to make a wonderful (and wonderful looking) car. The support group on RL is amazing ... they also speak up, as you have seen, which I too find helpful and informative to potential buyers.

Beautiful car! Was it ever down in a Phialdelphia mechanic shop? If it is, I saw it ~2 months ago for regular maintenance work and it was beautiful with a great sounding engine.

Vehicle mileage is 43,300 which is verified by maintenance records and Carfax. It is very well preserved and nearly new in appearance externally and internally. The undercarriage is clean and there are no fluid leaks. I have extensive service records and maintained this 928 with great care. Everything functions correctly including gauges, air conditioning, clock, cruise control and factory radio/CD player. Two respected 928 specialists, one of whom installed a performance cam and ECU upgrade, have performed the maintenance during current ownership. The enhanced engine power is easily comparable to later model GTS engines. The tires are nearly new and the rims are flawless OEM 17” Cup wheels with correct factory offsets. The linen paint is original and appears as new because the car was always stored indoors and never exposed to harsh weather. The only paintwork ever was a front bumper respray by a Porsche dealer to eliminate unsightly license plate mounting holes and minor road rash. The leather upholstery is well preserved and shows only minor evidence of wear. The owner, a collector and 928 enthusiast, believes this 928 is one of the best original condition examples available anywhere. This car was shown only once where it won Best in Class at the 2015 Great Marques Concours d’Elegance in New York. Private seller, depstein15@nyc.rr.com. $49,500.

Yes, the Philly shop knows the car well! But that was last year, in for top end refresh and other maintenance.

GLWS Don,
I observed the Cam upgrade while it was being done. Done by one of the best. Whats your next one?
Best Regards Longrunner

Congrats on your great deal. Some other commenters aside, I still think that the missing undertrays should be replaced ASAP. You will find that the car sounds completely different with them correctly installed. And no matter what anybody says, I had a lot of problems with short lifespan of accessory belts, attributed to the missing undertrays.
