I was thinking about starting a topic about 78's only, and ask folks with 78's to post as many pictures of their car as possible, inside, outside, underneath, engine compartment, etc, etc. Make for a great reference source.

Brian.
That's a great idea, Brian. Start that thread!

No, it appears my initial assessment has been verified Mark.

That's not a hard-and-fast rule.

Very Nice! I think that car has had some serious TLC in the past and will be a great starting point for you.

The car has had quite a few good things done within recent miles. It is over heating though. I had to add coolant, although I just used water at this time.

Can anyone tell me where I should bleed the air from?

928 does not need bleeding...it self bleeds. ! Porsche fixed the 944 problem. Thus no bleed port.

Oh wow!. Thanks for the info.

? To make sure it is circulation, can I feel any different hoses and check to respective temperature by "feel" to be sure the thermostat is open? I am getting heat if that helps diagnose the over heating issue. Also the aftermarket fans came on for a bit just after I turned it off. Maybe I just need to run it longer?

Sure it is for factory fitment, unless otherwise specified by the owner.

I have to do some work on it and I don't have a lift. So some friends will be coming over to help me roll it onto it's roof on some soft grass behind my house so I can get to things that are otherwise unreachable. Problem solved! always thinking!

PorKen has liftbars available for the older cars.

http://liftbars.com/

Get it up on the bars on 4 6 ton jack stands and you have a decent amount of room to work.

You are welcome. I got a set last summer when the version for the older cars came back (it was unavailable for a while).
I did my first job with them over the winter. It's amazing how much difference the couple of extra inches that the bars give makes.

And getting the car up and down is slicker than (insert your favorite disgusting animal digestive function here).

OK, so the car is home and I drove it around the block. I found a lot of surprises and believe it or not, almost all them are good. ....i know right?

THE GOOD:

1. Odometer does work!, and looking at records and the condition of a few things I think it might be actual mileage!
2. Documents show steering rack replaced with a rebuilt ZF 3,500 miles ago.
3. Brakes and pads are nearly new.
4. Guages had the LED upgrade (?) already done, and all seem to work sans the low fuel warning ..maybe see "THE BAD" below
5. All lights work, turn signals cancel.
6. Documents show clutch being replaced, and it feels great. steering rack (rebuilt ZF) 3,500 miles ago.
7. Twin electric fans not sure of brand (See Picture).
8. Original radio works.
9. Parking brake is tight
10. Stick shift is firm and not sloppy. Documents show shifter cup,.. or something like that replaced.
11. She cleaned up nicely.
12. Steel locking gas cap is kinda cool.
13. Tires have plenty of tread.
14. Headlights are H4's
15. Hood badge is new.
16. Seems to start just fine when cold or warm.
16. I can't believe I actually own one of these now!

THE BAD: ??

1. Coolant was very low and only seemed to be water. filled it with only water again and got the "Low coolant" light to go off, but the temperature continued to rise. Perhaps a bubble in the system?... I am not sure where the bleeder valve is and will look in the A.M.
2. Fuel lines should be done
3. Some sort hissing sound from the vents above the heater/ac control. it gradually hisses it's self to silence after shutting the car off. takes about 10-15 to go away. I imagine I have a vacuum leak under there.?
4. Buzzing from the fuse panel for the first few seconds after starting the car. (I just realized this is the set belt buzzer
5. Gas gauge reads empty, which it may be, but there is no low fuel light? Have to find all grounds and do some clean up.
6. I can't believe I actually own one of these now.

any help is appreciated!
