I went down today and looked at it. I am going down tomorrow and hope fully it will stay low enough for me to afford it. I have been studying these cars for 3 years every single day. I am not the typical Porsche owner as I am a musician and can't spend too much. I hope no one else is there and it stays low. If it goes above my means I could maybe help someone else who wants to purchase it. The car is a US with replaced side fenders and the front wheels are a little off kilter and duck footed. This does scare me a bit that it may have been hit. The drives side wheel is maybe a 1/8 or 1/16th of an inch inside the well and the passengers side is 1/8 our of the well. I went down for a hour or so earlier today. The seats have been painted or dyed to look like cork

In the one picture from the auction, it looks like the front license plate bracket has white paint spray on it.
Don't those normally come as black originally..?

Look carefully for bends/ripples and possible welding seams in the front structure that might indicate a rebuild in that area. Look also at the front bumper area and the apron (where the hood latch engages) for repairs too. You likely won't be able to look at frame rails and horns except through the engine bay, but worth a look there and maybe underneath.
Lots of cars have fenders replaced. Ditto the hood, looking for original color throughout. Shop smart!

I have diligently followed this forum for 3 years. After my '87 944S/968 conversion was totaled back in 2012, I began looking for the Porsche I REALLY wanted when i bought my first 944 in '95. Like many of our middle aged members, I fist fell in love with the lines of the 928 when watching Risky Business. I came close to pulling the trigger on many cars, but finally made my move on this one. (since I could not get "Kermit", "Blumaxx" " Marvin" or "Silver Bullet".
I have read most every thing on this forum, seen every video I found and spoken to many great and helpful folks at this forum. Initially I was aiming for the higher performance of the '85 and up cars. But I gradually fell in love with the mojo of the OB's. I have concern that i will have buyers regret and not be able to care for this car the way it deserves. Living on a musicians wage I hope to learn to do some of the labor my self and hopefully preserve and nourish this fine piece of engineering.
The car is VIN 9288200412 US. Grand Prix white (repainted). It has an excellent green vinyl interior (sans the dash) , no sunroof, and a 5-speed as well as H4's. It has the original tape radio and air compresser too!.
Although being a US spec car,The front fenders must have been from a very early car as they have no EU side markers and only the typical mobile home added lights that one finds on a federalized Euro. The rear bumper is straight US.
I purchased the car today an auction for a total of $4,175 which included their fee's. It was listed as "True mileage unknown" the ODO reads 55k and the condition of some of the bits leads me to believe this may be close or possibly actual mileage. The "928" brake and clutch pedals seem to be in very good shape. Thank you KONAKAT for the heads up on this car right near me. Thank you Jim Doerr and Alex Vandamme for allowing me the benefit of your wisdom and answering my relentless questions .... I imagine it's about to get worse.... consider this your "fair warning"
There are a few issues I have to address before driving it.:
1) There was a water drip near the drivers side front after starting it for a while. I could not tell where it came from with the belly pan on ( the car has a later S front bumper and chin spoiler.
2) I have not gotten a good look at the fuel lines and do not know how to tell if they have been replaced. ( However there is a phone book sized binder with receipts that i have only glanced over. perhaps I'll find a clue there. I will post more pictures later that may show the lines in question. If any see's anything to be concerned about please chime in.
I am not sure what else I really NEED to get done before driving it. I imaging the Timing belt water pump need to go, but from what I understand that may not be that urgent on this early non-interference M28/03
