it really looks great, and you should be proud,
BUT I have to ask whats with the air cleaner, it should be bright orange.

Stan,

You may remember calling me out about my air filter at Frenzy. It looks dirty because I tried to paint the edge black. Didn't stick. I plan to cover it with black tape soon.

I cannot abide the orange! It's hideous, no matter how traditional Porsche it may be. It is particularly wrong next to the yellow bits.

Perhaps yellow tape ....

I just looked through the entire thread. I sure know a lot more about the engine than I did ten weeks ago. I also saw why I ended up with two extra gaskets - I forget they were recommended for the water bridge to supplement the o-rings.

Just notice this.
What is it?
An aftermarket alarm system horn?

Nice job Curt.

I've owned the car 18 months now, without ever looking at the CE panel. This alarm system must add to the horror. It's extraction is on the list. In the meantime, perhaps I can replace the siren with a resistor, in case the system goes berserk if it detects it's been removed.

Anyone got a Dwayne-like guide to removing an Alpine theft alarm system?

I had the same on my '89 GT years ago. The PO had a bunch of work done at a local stereo shop that was beyond disgraceful. I was a bit scared to tackle the aftermarket alarm removal, because I had read horror stories on the old Porsche Fans email forum. Went over some railroad tracks one day and about 50% of the wiring along with the control box fell onto my feet. It kind of forced the removal. LOL. (The shop was so bad that instead of installing the correct depth speakers in the doors and rear seat areas, they drilled about 100 holes in each area and then cut the metal out with a cold chisel or air hammer. Left the chips in place too. They started pouring out when I pulled the passenger door panel to replace the window tensioner.)

Great job by the way. It looks awesome. Plus as you said, you've learned a lot about the 928.

One more thing: the very last thing to do was to put the hood back on. Went pretty smoothly, even one-handed (with a rope from the ceiling). Got the receiver aligned well, stopped to think if I should go ahead and close it all the way, then before I'd finished thinking - clunk, it's down and latched.

Would it unlatch? No! Handle is limp. Damn - I never put the cable housing clamp back in, the very last thing on my tray of cups of sorted parts.

I took the handle out and tugged the cable as much as I dared. No good. Then I had my wife press down on the latch area. Still no good. I guess I need to get into the wheel well, right? Argh!

Not sure but if I remember well, you can get to it from underneath with a long screewdriver.

Not at home right now so can't check.

Good luck.

Great job Curt. Looks better than a new engine to my eyes. I really like how your powder coating turned out and how the plated pieces really work well with the intake and cam covers.

I also have the problem of an alarm system installed by a shop that winged it. It's a mess. However, was able to remove the horn and wiring without an bad side effects. I've got the next week off and will replace the center and footwell HVAC flap actuators and tackle removing the rest of the alarm mess. I found the original factory power wiring for the stereo after I removed the console (thanks to Bertrand's help with what wires to look for).
