Default Any experience with Nitto tyres?

My rear rubber is totally shot after heat degradation and a visit to the Continental agents produced no availability. Spoke to a friend up in Dubai and he reckons there are some good deals there with a make called Nitto that he has heard positive feedback about performance. Have heard of them but no clue as to how good they are [or are not].

Any list experience- specifically design type NT-05?

I also have a problem in that I normally run 295x30x18 on the rears to maintain a rolling radius of 25 inches. Nitto do not make this size but they have a 295x35x18 section that has a rolling radius of just over 26 inches. Mated to my fronts with 265x35x18 at about 25.4 inches diameter I suspect the difference will not be enough to cause any issues with the ABS system- any thoughts?

My rears are now like a bar of soap- the heat does them in and to be fair to Continental they have lasted 5 years which over here is phenomenal- lucky if we get 3 years out of a set before this happens.

Did not stop me from giving some chump a driving lesson this evening but the 928 did not really like it and I felt like a chump for not resisting the temptation. Much easier to deal with these situations in the Cayenne Turbo S but somehow more fun kicking *** in the 928!

Theyre ok..but a 2nd tier tire, perf wise, IMHO.

But..I have zero input on your climate and it's effects.

That is about what I might expect to hear based on reviews available. My usage profile is just about zero wet weather and warm to stinking hot temperatures and the tires are usually dead long before they wear out the tread. Also our Porsche club is dead so no more auto cross days sad to say.

Now I am finding locally that only 19 inch rubber is available and not much of that so a trip up to Dubai is going to be needed. there also some strange laws concerning legally approved rubber with different regulations to what goes in Dubai for instance- urrgh!

Steven,

Thanks for that- some reviews question their wet weather performance but generally seem to be very positive about dry weather and track days.

It does rain over here a few days a year and when it does all hell lets loose so one tends to keep off the roads as months of oily deposition rise to the surface and create a skid pan effect - then traffic slows to a crawl.

I'm using Nitto Invo tyres - great performance in the dry or wet and seems to be wearing well should get 18,000+ miles out of them easy

This is getting better by the post and the Invo design is their entry level offering [I believe]- thanks for the input.

There must be someone out there who hates them!

I drive my car in the wet often. I am at the coat and we get lots IV very heavy rain... Several events this year at 2 inches per hour....
NNoissues with wet weather performance.

I autocross mine a little and drive it hard whenever I get the chance. These have great shoes.. Very happy with them.
I think I paid around $800 for the set

Current feedback suggests my needs can be met for the front [265x35x18] but the rears [looking for 295x35x8] seem a bit more problematical. Unfortunately they do not make a 295x30x18 that I would prefer to keep the rolling radius stock.

What sizes do you run?

I have the Nitto Motivo all season tires on both my 928 and wife's Jaguar. Not as good as a summer only tire as far as traction, but we have enough rain in Houston area to justify. I'm running much smaller rear than 295 (I think actually 255) but I went exactly plus 2 when going to 18 inch wheels and the speedo is spot on.

I run Nitto Invos on both my supercharged 997 and my supercharged 928 Spyder. They're my favorite tire for the price point and have excellent wet and dry weather performance.

On the 928 I run
Front - 18x8 - offset 57 with Nitto Invo 235/40-18
Rear - 18x10 - offset 65 with Nitto Invo 295/35-18 and 15mm spacer

On the 997 I run
Fronts - 19" x 8.5" with 235/35-19 Nitto Invo
Rears - 19" x 11.5" with 305/30-19 Nitto Invo

For the 928 the weight rating of either the front or the rear (don't recall which) in my size is about 10 pounds too light to if you order them from somewhere like Discount Tire Direct, enter vehicle information that says they're for a 914 track car or something a little lighter than a 928 or they won't ship them to you. For me I wasn't worried about it because my 928 is a Convertible and with the roof and all that extra glass removed for a canvas top, I'm sure I'm below tbe weight for the load rating. I also assume those load ratings have a margin of safety built in, but you decide for yourself what you're comfortable with. I don't have any experience with the NT05 tire.

no need to worry about rolling radius. the ABS works fine with 26" rears and 25" fronts.

Thanks for the detailed and positive input.

I can well understand you might have a problem if you were using sizes like 225 but with a 235 and the extra width it gives such should not be a problem. I will do some checking on this concept out of interest.

In my case with 265 and 295 targetted front and rear respectively the load rating should [will?] invariably increase [I suspect] to give plenty of load factor- logically in the 500kg region. The bigger sizes are targetted at cars like the Corvette and the Mustang - very much 928 territory.

Surely someone out there must have a negative point of view regarding this make of rubber?
