The guy has been emailing me & calling because I bid on it a couple of times. Today He emailed me and I told him I would call. I get the feeling something isn't quite right. He is selling it for the owner according to the eBay listing.

Anybody else know anything???

By 89 did the cars all have air-bag steering wheels? If so, that's a little fishy if the stock wheel is included in the sale, and it's a non-air bag wheel. Also can't see anybody doing and air-bag delete momo wheel on an 89 GT -- especially a collector.

The quotes in the eBay ad make it easy to google:

https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...late-89gt.html

I'm interested in it myself too... haven't bid yet though. Looks like Th Dude is still active on the beetle boards. I'll PM him.

89 is no airbag. I've got an '89 S4 5spd with the same original wheel. I was unaware that there were '89 GT models out there though since I've got the S4 5spd.

89 GT was no airbag but had digital dash. Also had the traditional LSD instead of the PSD differential.

yeah he lists M220, not 221 (corresponds with the 40% LSD)

I sold this car to the current owner. It is a beautiful example. Look up old threads of mine for more info.
The current owner purchased it from me in 2012. He offered it back to me a few months ago, before it was listed on ebay. He wants TOP dollar (~$35k), or at least he did a few months ago. The ebay listing is by a middleman, on behalf of the current owner. They used quite a bit of the language from my sale ad, three years ago.
Contact the middleman, arrange an inspection, make an offer if you like what you see. When I sold it in 2012 it was pristine...but now it's been on the East coast for three years.
Feel free to ask me any specific questions via PM.

Thanks "The Dude" for responding and enlightening me.

The ad indicated the following, which I believe in incorrect.

"In 1989, only 369 928 GT's were produced making this car a very rare find"

Below is the complete list:

1989 928 GT's made for different markets and first + last VIN for each of them.

1989
C00 Germany LHD WP0ZZZ92ZKS841332 - 842477 #198

This is correct, which is why many folks consider the '89 GT the pinnacle of 928's: Digidash without the complexity of airbags, mechanical LSD instead of the more complex PSD, also the club-sport wheels instead of the more angular D90's. (Look at where the spokes meet the rims, it is a smooth transition on the CS wheels and a "step" on the D90s).

The GT was a mid-89 model year introduction, so there are also '89 5-speed S4's but didn't have the GT engine and gearbox. For '89 the GTs are distinguished by the option code M639 (which this car has).

This is a very nice car, and the statement that it is one of the finest may not be an exaggeration. However dealing with a middleman who "has not personally inspected the vehicle" is a yellow flag for me.

If originality is a concern then there are a couple of things that detract, as does the unknown TB/WP status. (The seller says that he has receipts, but doesn't disclose what those receipts actually say). And of course a GT without sport seats seems incomplete, but that's just us. On the plus side it looks to be a very nice, well-maintained car that is largely original.

Missing original rub strips, flag mirrors and black rubber wing. Possible rear wiper delete. Same sort of modifications I like but in today's rising valuations I might be less inclined to alter the aesthetics of an original car.

The rub strips were not always fitted to a 1989 GT, at least in Europe.

Also, most of the original parts are included, and that is a good point.
It seems that only the original side mirrors are missing.
