Default Belly Pan Yes / No?

for a daily driver, do you run a belly pan or skid plates? My 87' didn't have a belly pan.

They protect the engine and help with cooling by keeping more air flowing through the radiator.

This past July a local 928 owner had a stone fly up and removed his alternator belt.

They belly pans made a big difference on engine compartment temperatures. So I say definitely yes.

I would like to install one as mine was missing when I bought the car. Is there any drawback to adding the aftermarket aluminum belly pan without the attached ducts or does it still provide the added cooling benefit without them? Or are the ducts available for sale somewhere? thx.

Mine is missing also but so is the front spoiler, going to replace both one day with the stock plastic ones, pretty sure they will get destroyed again soon after that cause the roads are horrible around me but I gotta try. I wouldn't go with one of those aftermarket metal belly pans, could do some serious damage if it ever falls off while you're driving down road for whatever reason (mechanic's fault, road strike, etc) unlike a plastic one which will mostly likely harmlessly pass under car and I don't think they have the proper/same cooling vents built into them.

For the improved engine cooling comments, I'm betting that applies a lot more to the later models (S4 and up) than the older ones. The belly pan on my '86.5 isn't very big and doesn't seem like it would have much impact on cooling at all.

That being said, I need to put it on. It was missing when I got my car, so I picked up one from 928 Intl, but I keep saying to myself "I'll put it on after I go in there and fix X." X keeps getting updated lol...

You won't notice a difference on the street.

Absolutely yes. More than one oil pan has been saved just in cars I've been riding/driving in in the past year. Don't go for the factory plastic one though.

Yes for better cooling and protection. But very understandable how it can sit in the corner for long periods once it's off and you don't get around to putting it back right away.

Get an aluminium one.

I run mine without the ducts- not by choice- just that they come without on the basis you will reuse the one from the icky stock plastic pan- unfortunately there was nothing left of mine after the S4 accident 10 years ago. Whether this is detrimental no idea. Some say it is required to protect the life of the hydraulic engine mounts- jury still out on that one in my case.
