American International Fiberglass Bumper. Keep or Delete?
So I bought my '82 with these American International Racing fiberglass front and rear bumpers. Lately I have been considering replacing them both with the bumpers from my '83 to bring the car back to the original design. The main reasons for this are: #1. I carelessly left off the parking brake and it rolled into the garage door which was opened leaving a nice 10mm wide by 2mm deep vertical groove right in the middle of the bumper- so it needs a respray, #2. The front fender lower valance plug welds are oxidizing through the paint, so drilling those back out for fitting the original valance and bumper will save me from having to respray the fenders if I keep it as-is, and #3. If I ever go to resell the car I think it would be worth more original (even though the interior is far from stock, but better in my opinion).
However, I really do like the way it looks with these bumpers so I am torn on what to do. What do you guys think? Should I go back to stock? Or keep them on and just fix the paint imperfections as needed?

The front was always good for me, its the back that did not work with the other lines and proportions.

I have that same rear bumper on my '79. I second the wet diaper comment. They could not fit the tail lights properly so they just moved them.

I agree. I originally thought the sag was because of the aftermarket nature of the part but the OEM S4 bumpers have the same drop in the profile.
I may keep the front as-is and replace the rear since it needs a respray anyway...
My '89 needs a good pair of tail lights as well so these would come in handy for that car when the time comes.

I did the same thing to my 83. I thought it looked bad a$$. I loved that car.
Having said that, I would never do it again. I would never spend the money to put them on, and I would never spend the money to take them back off.
Just to drive it and enjoy it.

I wonder how many voters have dealt with the bumper covers.
Leave them alone and spend a nice weekend, or two, enjoying yourself and your car and not struggling with little bolts that break off.
