I thought the early cars always had full length beading which super ceded to the late short

My '78 #413 also does not have any connection to that hose. I was worried I left it unmarked when I took the engine out. Glad that most '78 s here also do not have that connection, except open to the engine bay.

Great work guys! Can't wait to see it fire up!

There is also an early short. Small 5" strips either in front of or behind the x-brace.

The system pulls inlet air from the open hose in engine bay. There is a check valve in the right-rear wheel that keeps vapor from exiting thru the inlet.
Fuel vapor is dumped into the intake and is burned at combustion.
This checks out with my findings tonight.

Now, I just have to get rid of that tee and extra hose to nowhere. Which, now understanding the method of operation...this open hose would defeat the vacuum created by the intake. Looks like the snazzy plumbing tee has to go bye-bye. Considering the shorter fender beading and the tee removal weight loss...should add another fifty miles an hour to the top-end.

I may end up with the fastest 928 known to man...

Probably had to do with where Bosch GMBH was located.
Makes perfect sense Jim as, IIRC, most parts made on the East side had a stigmatism they didnt want made public.

I was fortunate to be in Germany for the 1990 F1 race in Hockenhiem; what a celebration that was .......I digress.

Just for comparison, here are the washer lid and tank configuration from Minerva.

FWIW, Minerva has the full-length fender beading:

124 cm overall length:

Looks like...48 inches and 13/16...to me. (American, through and through)

Interesting washer tank...I'll have to double check mine...just glanced at it last night...cold here and all.

I believe all my '78 cars have the full length ones. A couple cars have nice ones like Rob's, the rest are quite crusty. Any suggestions for a source of something similar to replace when the time comes. It's on my list along with early intake tubes to find a decent "lookalike".

Just look for bulk automotive molding and you'll find something that fits.
A quick Google search shows that Fairchild Automotive has something that looks like the OE product.

Have you tried slathering them in Gummi Pflege? Clean 'em with soap and water on a microfiber towel, rinse, dry, then gummi pflege, let it soak in overnight. Reapply if necessary, then buff out. It's good stuff.

From Amazon, back on December 5th. Looks like they're between lots right now. Also looks like 303 sells something very similar:

Amazon.com: 303 (30324) Rubber Seal Protectant - 3.4 fl. oz.: Automotive Amazon.com: 303 (30324) Rubber Seal Protectant - 3.4 fl. oz.: Automotive

You might also check Pelican. I bought some there last year. Good stuff.
