What is the towing capacity of a 32V?
Passing this Porsche/Tailer combo on 101 south bound from Monterey car week.

That's a Bowlus Road Chief, intended as a modern takeoff on a vintage Airstream for towing by beefy sedans.
We got to see it up close and personal in Carmel, misses the mark a bit in my opinion. Max gross weight is spec'ed at 3,000 lbs and the tongue weight (I assume empty) is 170.
I *think* the max towing weight for a 928 is 3500# but I am not sure how realistic that is.
Oh yeah, the starting price is $110K, it is very nice and they are proud of it. My advice would be to buy a used Cayenne and the Airstream of your choice.

They weigh 4,500lbs, have plenty of power, long wheelbase and the same style uni-body chassis as any mid-class SUV.
IIRC without brakes is 1,500lbs or less.
I've been wondering this myself. I've been wanting to make more road trips visiting tracks like Mid-Ohio, Road Atlanta etc... and it would be more fun to take a 928 and camp.
Some of those pop-up trailers weigh less than 1,000lbs.
In order for me to do such a mod, it would have to be a factory trailer hitch and I have a feeling those are harder to find than roof racks (which I do have...)

What about that vehicle in your pic up ahead? It looks rather interesting also.
I lived in an Airstream for several years long, long ago. That came to an abrupt end when we had our first child.

According to the Tech Spec books for the 90+ years, the towing capacity is 3520 kg (7760 lbs!) and the tongue weight is limited to 75 kg (165lbs). However, I think the 3520 includes the car, so the trailer would be limited to 1940 kg (4300lb) which is still pretty healthy.

That tongue weight limitation is the killer. 3500lb trailer with only 165 at the tongue is gonna whip you off the road in a strong crosswind. Assuming that's just for suspension loading limitations, and not transmission?

The car up ahead in the shot was a late model Saab soft top
Jim is correct, it's a Bowless not an Airstream and they claim it has only 170# tongue weight.
They are nicely made with attention to weight but $110 is a bit weighty (ha ha) . I'm curious how he sees around it
without wide mirrors.
We have a 17' Airstream that weighs 2500#s empty and like the Bowless we moved all the tanks to the bottom on both sides of the axle.
How many of you have noticed the separated light indicator on your pod for towing a trailer?

Will is right. It was the company caravan returning from Monterey to the factory in Oxnard
It's an interesting marketing scheme. $110,000 trailer towed by a $110,000 Porsche
Some of the campsites we have been to with our Airstream require ground clearance that the Porsche might find challenging.
