The ugly:

Suggestions?

What other years match the input shaft?

Tranny has 127 on the ODO now.

No broken bits. That is out of a Twin Screwed car.

It is more than just an input since it carries the lay shaft drive gear as well.. those ratios are unique to the GT.

Here's where you might be headed.

Remove the shaft from the trans. Take it to a machine shop and have them match up the spline with a new one. Cut the existing shaft down back to good metal. Weld a mating plate on the existing shaft, and a plate on the new spline piece. Mate the two plates together and weld them up. Heat treat it and back together. It's an ugly job, I know because I had to do that on something called a Rzeppa joint for an antique car. The spline was an SAE #20 pitch, which is pretty easy to find, but mating it to the existing shaft was a j-o-b.

That is what I figured was going to be the solution. New input shaft = $$$$$

Ahh, we used to have a red one around here that the owner had for a week before he destroyed the transmission. He'd been here a couple of times asking for advice before he purchased it. Had the one of the local Porsche Dealerships call me asking if i'd work on a trans for them and sent them to Greg Brown, never heard back from him after that.

Nasty! Look at the spline wear. The TT drive shaft's been hammering that for a while, and likely has similar spline wear.

AFAIK a new G28.12/13/55 input shaft/5th gear 928 302 905 32 has been NLA for at least 2 years- they were available in 2012 for $1300 but no longer. I think your best bet would be to find a G28.12 that ate a shift lockout spring and FUBAR'ed another gear or three, that could donate a 5th gear.

how did it break? what were you doing when it gave way? ive broken one on the dyno, when the ebrake was barely on , but it caused huge vibration and the same thing happened.

I cant believe we cant get more 5th gears! i have good splines on my broken 5th on the holbert transmission, too bad you cant just replace the gear on mine that is damaged. (the two gear set)

I have no history on the transmission - came in as a core for the 91 GT tranny I sold.
