Green Connector behind Fuse Panel... what is this and where does it go?
I had to unbolt the fuse panel last night to remove the recirculation box and replace the flap actuator. I noticed this green connector just hanging there, and I think it should be connected to something. A google search for "Porsche 928 green connector fuse panel" returns a result saying it might go to an air flow switch on back of flapper box... but I didn't see anything resembling that. Anyone know what this is and where it goes?
Hmm... I'm not sure Ken. It doesn't reach to the controller. I had to dig through the spaghetti mess of wires to get it free enough to snap this pic because it was behind everything, and the free length of wire are only a couple inches before they go to who knows where. It's as if some kind of blade-connector goes into it, but there's nothing free. Can't see anything like it in other people's 'behind the fuse panel' pictures, either.
I can't tell you what it is for but I have seen it before. I would leave it be and carry on with your project.

I do have rear air, so I'll check for continuity today and report back... still wouldn't know where to plug this connector into.
Roger, my fear was that I disconnected something when pulling forward on the fuse panel. It's not a huge job to remove the panel again later down the road, but of course I'd rather figure it out now. If you're suggesting to leave it, I'll move forward with re-assembly.
Hopefully someone can chime in with knowledge about this strange connector soon.
There are lots of unused connectors on a 928. If there was a corresponding plug for the green one it would be apparent.
I would finish the recirculation flap install and leave the CE panel forward but safe. Then start and drive the car to see if anything is not working. If all is OK button it back up.
In the mean time someone will let us know what the green plug is for 8>)
If it's any help, the part number is 813 972 623 on the connector with a VW and Audi symbol. Wires are Brown/Green and terminate in the female blade connector within the green plastic housing. Search results in google don't really help... it says air conditioning compressor connector, which this is not.
Do you have the factory alarm system? By the # of wires, wire color, and position it looks like the hood switch connector for the alarm @ L38 in WSM wire diagram. (Hood switch is also wired to the fan control brain to turn off the fans.)
(Note 88-up WSM wire diagrams show plug description, location, and pin count on the last page.)
No factory alarm... Sean, I think you're right. I also posted this on Facebook 928 group and someone else who has it says it's the cable that's included in the "M195 Prepared for Cellular - Telephone System" option.
I completely forgot to check continuity to fuse #13.
Put things back together, and everything appears to be working normally.
I also believe it is in the circuit that detects the hood open for the alarm. I have a factory alarm on my '88 so this is connected. When I checked it while trying to trace battery drain, the current draw on the battery increased when the hood was opened, unless the plug was disconnected.
