Here is the eBay link for the headlights I bought. Minor Dremel modification required to the inner “bucket” that the light sits in. Not bad

Great news, Ron! I've just ordered a boatload of parts from 928 Specialists for my Intake Refresh. I look forward to seeing your ride at SITM!

She's running and on the road.

Given where you started from, that's rather 'purdy' to most of us.

Well, took care of the magic blower. Removed the resistor pack. It is very old looking, and does not have the “cage” around it, like in the pics I’ve seen.
sanded the 1 contact, soaked in deoxit, soaked the connector, plugged it all up...so far, working.

i don’t seem to have any vacuum at the solenoid pack behind the dash....where does it come from? Also found that my heat valve was bad. Replaced with a new one, and strapped it shut...it’s summer now...

New master should be here Wednesday.

AC system was flat. Pressurized with dry nitrogen and leak checked...solid. Evacuated system an d vacuum held at 30microns for an hour. Pulled triple evacuation, using r22 to break vacuum. Final vacuum, allowed to run 2 hours. Recharged with R-12...cooling quite well. Compressor seems solid. I will recover the charge later and replace the drier and recharge again with virgin gas.

Vac feed for HVAC comes from the 4-way connector just in front of the brake booster. The 4-way is fed from a little tap off of the big line that runs from manifold to booster. That 4 way should have one 'tap' plugged (for use as a testing point), and one line feeds through the firewall to the HVAC solenoid pack and the other line feeds beside the MC through the fender to the cruise control vacuum unit.

I believe you should get a reading of about 20 at any point along that line from the manifold on...to testing the small line at the cruise unit should yield about 20, at any point on the tee should read 20, the HVAC solenoid inlet should read 20, brake booster inlet, etc.

There is also a one way check valve mounted in line with the 4-way tee. Make sure it is still good.

Thanks buddy. I traced to that point, but wasn’t sure. I actually have a replacement check valve, but I’ll start there.

thanks again!

Been a busy couple of days.

Dad turned 80 yesterday, came up from Tampa for his BD, and my brother came in from Vienna. We had a big shindig.

somehow, amidst all this, I found time to replace the brake master, bleed the lines, reassemble the reservoir, bleed the clutch, and replace the power window motor and gear assembly on the passenger door (actually one of the easier 928 jobs I have done), and replace the power mirror switch. I also bought some sort of lobster claw wheels on letgo, and mounted them. 2tires were shot, so I took them to my buddy’s garage and got him to swap 2 of the tires off my phone dials to the new to me rims. I took her out for a 30 mile run. The longest run she has had in app 10 years. She performed quite well, good braking, good clutch, handled well, although the only time I had driven her before, was with larger front tires...she seems to wander a bit. Temperature was good, and oil pressure seemed good. Voltmeter does not work, but I have a digital one across the battery, and it stayed around 13.6 while driving, 12.4 at rest. Getting a weird chirping noise from around the fuse panel, not sure what it is. Changing the blower speed did not effect the noise, but giving the car throttle made the speed of the chirp increase. It came and went.

So I still need to fix the vinyl on the passenger door panel and reinstall that, and remove the drivers door panel and fix that vinyl (and lube up the power window tracks)
need to disassemble and repair the drivers side power mirror (don’t work at all)
disassemble and lube passenger side mirror (works but very slow)
remove the steering wheel and see why the horn does not work (looks like this wheel has been off before, it is not centered, so this is a chance to do that as well.
figure out why the center damper does not open, and the heat valve does not close. Good news is the AC works well. At least for now I can manually open the damper and close off my louvers if it is too much air in my face (doubt it will be though)
get some sort of cover for the steering wheel, it is tattered
get some cheap seat covers (they tattered also)
glue down my dash cover (dash beyond tattered)
get my bung welded on for the wideband and install the sensor
get some holes in the exhaust pipe welded

hmmm, that’s my desired to do list before SITM. I will worry about the oil and power steering leaks later... (cam seals and rack). Who knows, maybe the leaks will stop on their own?

She just might make it to SITM yet....

The chirp is probably the recirc valve acting up. They fail and are annoying to replace.

But it gives you a great opportunity to clean out all the leaves from the last 25+ years that collected in the cowl.

I had the black and blue check valve fail and not let any vacuum get to the AC system and cause it to not work right. They're super easy to test but since you have one I would just replace it and forget about it.

Blake,

tell me me more about the recirc valve....the pod behind the glove box?

Seems like i replaced the one in #30 about 6 years ago...there is a “grille” above the CE panel...I had to take that down if memory serves....but I also replaced the blower on that car. That is exactly the area I hear the chirping, definitely from the right side of the car, between the center console and the L-jet area. It’s not the blower.

i tested the check valve with the mighty vac, and all was good. Need to dig a little deeper for this vacuum issue.
