Aren't we at the point where you expect something at the deal, and if it's less than, you go low, and if it's as you expected or better, you just give the money over and leave?

I can see people's points here. But cars that are "needing nothing" are few and far between now. And they will look very different and be presented differently - no matter if someone "says" needs nothing.

Sorry about your luck Mr. Miniburger noob... I'm not him.
But what big keyboard cajones you have! Or are they your wife's?

You've met the seller.
Most everybody that belongs here on the 928 forum knows what I look like: 6' tall, shaved head, goatee.
In fact, DR & I look like we could be brothers.
And, everyone also knows I only own the white S4 that is in my avatar.
Nice try to deflect attention of your deficiencies to someone else.
You really had a great deal at your bid price... you should have taken it.

People have asked why do I give a damn about this car in the least?
Well, not only is it 1 of less than 30 928's painted in this color -I have seen it in person at 4 or 5 SITMs.
And, being only an hour away, I had to check it out for myself.
It turns out that it was stored in a garage -just not under a car cover or in a bubble.
And, the seller informed Herr Miniburger that the car hadn't been washed in a year and it was dirty -before he drove to meet him.

Well, the car can't defend itself and the owner is not on RennList (I will be sending him a link to this thread though) -so I took it upon myself to see exactly what is what.
The owner did take my recommendation to thoroughly clean the car... so you wouldn't have to get dirt under your finger nails.

So pipsqueak, I spent the last 2 days in 95+ degree heat checking out the car you were once drooling over -before you started that nickel-n-dime act on him.
I have taken about 40 photos of the car and all of those "issues" that you so colorfully described.
I also had with me 2 other RennListers -one who owns 4 928's and the other that owns 2.
That way, you won't have to rely on my 'biased' opinion... I wasn't disappointed in the car at all.

Needless to say, this car won't be listed on eBay again (mini-burger's negative feedback saw to that).
The ad on CL shows the asking price of $12.5k...
Interested parties may PM me with offers that I will then forward to the seller.
Questions will be answered.
Offers will be considered by the seller.

Some of the photos I have notes on them and will address other items I saw with the car in other posts with the photos that go with them.

General pics to start with:

No... the $20 plastic trim piece is broken.
In fact, they come in pairs for that price... a little more if you want the Euro bumperette deletes too!

Good thing I got a pic of it huh? Better than a $150 lens, right?

I am with Slider who I think has all the right to complain about the undisclosed and misrepresented issues. Too many times that I drove for hours to look at some "mint" cars that turned out to be POS. A non-working odometer stopped on the way to deliver the car sounds like BS to me regardless how one looks at it. As far as I know, it could have been 50k miles ago when it quit working. The only thing that I don't understand is why White Lightnin takes such a personal and defensive stance on the car when he is not the seller nor has any stakes on it. And yet he can provide such detailed pics of the issues in question.
White Lightnin, is that steering wheel burgundy or magenta? Can you post a detailed pic of it? Does the seller want to sell that steering wheel?

Quite an unusual color choice.

that car looks pretty stunning to me,
based on the pictures with a lil bit of TLC
it could be getting trophies at a car show
If thats original paint even better

That's because I drove there each of the last 2 days in 95+ degree heat to photograph it with a real camera & tripod... not a cellphone.

I also took pics of things I noticed -not just what slider whined about.
Sure, he didn't like it and that should be that -but in the good old RL fashion, he continues bashing the car & seller to get a lower price.

Seller is the 3rd owner. The second owner scraped the right fender and front bumper and those have been resprayed -as he was informed. Roof has faded about a shade -will see in pics- but not to the extreme he puts it.

Pretty sure the steering wheel is burgundy and stays with the car. Original wheel comes with car... in fact, let's list the 'included' items:

1. Porsche Sport wheel in matching burgundy (original 4-spoke wheel included)
2. MOMO automatic shifter handle (original T-handle included)
3. Chrome rear muffler bypass (original pumpkin included)
4. Quality aftermarket stereo system with amp & subwoofer (original gone with 2nd owner)
5. XM satellite radio
6. Burgundy protective floor mats (sides reversed in some pics)
7. Complete tool kit (pliers missing from photo, but has that too)
8. Original hatch cover (torn, but present & complete for a redo)
9. Rear shoulder belts still present & operable
10. Cold A/C -R134a conversion already done
11. 928Spec sundshade set (windshield, hatch, quarter windows)

More pics to follow...

More pics... roof fade:

Pics taken in direct sunlight... should have taken a pic in shade for comparison.
'Normal' means the horizontal surfaces will react worse from sunlight before vertical surfaces will... pic showing progression from horizontal to vertical.
I believe most of the time it was driven daily, the back of the car was poking out from a carport.

Stepping out for a few hours, back later.

That car (IMO) is stunning, visually. However it's the undisclosed non-visual items which would have sent me packing. You keep saying that slider continues to bring this stuff up to get a better price, but all I see is you bringing it back up...really unbelievable that you have no vested interest here...as in, I literally do not believe it But, not my problem...

Regarding the fades/blemishes on the roof...I have some similar issues. It's a tangent, but since this thread isn't really going anywhere productive anyway...can that sort of thing be buffed out, or does it require a respray? I tried to compound it and buff it on mine, but it didn't really seem to help...then again I'm no pro with that stuff.

I think it's BS. These cars go for way to little as it is.

On the roof blemish you point out, that's what happens when the clear coat starts to break down and fail. It's likely from a buffer burning through the clear. Some of the other white spots on the roof and hatch are from the clear getting too thin and starting to break down. To repair it, you would have to repaint those panels. And since it looks like there's no other damage to the roof or hatch, you wouldn't even apply color to the edges of the panel. It would be minimally invasive as far as any painting goes.

Yep, as it is -anyone that can use both feet to drive a manual can drive this without difficulty.
I did with minimal pressure on the gas to keep it going.

He mentioned that its easier to keep it running if I manually shift and also mentioned that these cars all start out in second gear when driven in D.
That's correct. To meet Federal EPA standards, the trans starts in 2nd gear when left in Drive.
Mash the loud pedal and it drops to 1st -or manually placing in 2nd does the same thing... as it was designed to do.
It's mentioned in the FAQ thread... you might have heard of that?

Seller popped hatch to show me the things that come with the car and there is a piece missing from the latch that makes hatch not seal properly.
Common broken plastic part... easily replaced without tools at a cost of about $25.
The latch liner helps to align the locking mechanisms and will secure the hatch as designed.

We move to the front of the car and a driving light lens is cracked.
Incorrect... see pics

Open the hood and the struts dont hold hood open,
probably would replace those 4-5 times over 27 years... normal consumable item.
turn on the lights and they come up but not on.
Seller says they were working the other day and its probably just the bulbs.
I mention that they dont typically blow in pairs so we check the relay.
I had both blow at once -low beams both and then high beams both the next day when my voltage regulator allowed a power surge.
Yes, it does happen. It may be the combination headlamp relay. And he drove 3 hours each way at night with just the fog/driving lights!

Also the dash and pod were cracked alot ,
27 years gets cracking... but it didn't warp.

the paint was dead on the roof, not shown in pictures
normal for 27 years -tape & respray upper surface only.
and the back window had awful bubbling tint
aftermarket tint -replace or remove to your hearts [and local laws] content., again not shown.

So with all these undisclosed flaws
for a weekend toy right?
and now unknown miles, I offered him a firm $6500 for the car and we parted ways.
You actually offered $6000 flat -against your $8500 bid.
