The first 10 numbers in the ROW (81) VIN sequence were not used. Perhaps true also for the USA (82) series as stated above, I just never realized that fact.

Jadz' number 1 car of the press car series, completed in early 1977, actually has last 3 numbers in VIN of 011, not 001. That I've had the pleasure of seeing with my own eyes, ahh what a day that was! As I recall equally famous press car #6 is Vin 016.

That said, back to the point, the red car in this thread looks great, it's fantastic to see such a time capsule be unearthed. Best luck with it, I'm sure he put it into your hands for a reason.

Well I received the title over the last week. Along with some more factory parts. The original belts from Germany that came with it. the owners manual, a service manual that was signed by the head honcho of Porsche at the time (haven't looked it over yet) along with a few things he did to the car when the shipped it back to Europe to drive the autobahn. It came with a Stirling Silver trophy from the Great Britain Porsche Club (car has a window sticker still). It also has a folder of all the things both previous owners have had done to the car. I have not looked at that yet either.

Next week is fixing the loose shifter and finding out where to get the foam for under the hood. the big piece was replace in the 90's and is in good shape. the small piece in front was not replaced and although it looks good if it is touched it falls apart real easy. I would like to get that ordered ASAP.

should I be googling for these parts? I would like to go original if possible. Is there a specific site that someone has original parts?

Thanks for the shifter links reading the through and through.

Dave, This is one beautiful car! One of the first things I did when I got my 928 eight years ago was to mount a fire extinguisher. Haven't had to use it but the peace of mind is worth it! I also mounted protection plates (http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/chinplate.php). Your clutch has two pressure plates and may take some getting used to. Any questions you have, have no doubt been discussed in this forum. www.autobahnextremist.com/ and www.steinels.com/ are excellent resources for your area.

Foam looks good too.
Were also the S4's originally delivered with such a spare bulb box, or was it only in the early ones?

Man the yellow pin-stripe seats in this car is simply awesome. Was this original on early cars, I thought they were only delivered with the checkerboard cloth pattern? Or are the seats from a later car? If original to the car it must be irreplaceable, I have spent years myself tracking down the last meter of new grey-green pin-stripe in existence but this yellow must be a lot harder to find. Congrats on the car!

I am driving out of state to pick up the car 4th of july week and bringing it back home to Ohio that week.

The car was taken out of service because the owner has sat in his recliner for the last 20 years. It is in great shape inside and out. interior has one small tear in the driver seat from getting in and out about 2 inches long. No other cracks or tears anywhere. It was stored in a heated garage under a cover since he bought it from the original owner around 1990 (it was a personal car of the Porsche dealer owner).

the only picture I could get of the car.
Wow, what a beauty! the hand truck? leaning precariously on the wheel barrow has me a bit concerned.

You don't want to ding or chip this one it's valuable.

Good luck with it. -Matt

Matt Thanks for the kind words. The car has one scratch or nick in the driver door on the edge of door. probably from the door opening and hitting something. It is extremely small you have to be looking for it.

I'm getting so excited about registering the car. I have the shifter bushings ordered and the front foam piece. They should arrive early next week and I should have the time to put them in and drive her to the DMV to get the title changed over.

I am looking to buy the original hood liner. The large piece was replaced already but pelican parts say the small piece in the picture is no longer available. Where else should I look.

you buy the large piece and cut it down....Porsche decided it was a bad idea as it crumbles and gets sucked into the intake so not fitted to later cars..
You might consider starting new threads for new questions......gets better quicker responses
