Hi!

Still slowly and carefully moving along towards removing my engine...

I now have a hoist and a "leveler",
and I wonder if some of you fellows might
have specific hints on attachment points and methodology for pulling, please?

Any advice is priceless at this point.

PS: That clutch pack sure does drop out fast ! LOL ! ! ! ! ! ! !

The factory pull lugs in the two corners should work just fine..

I noticed that "ADAPTER 9137",
(the factory tool shown in WSM,)
seems to attach at 3 points?
1 aft and 2 fore?
Is that just to prevent rotation?

Meh, just use chains and the corners.

The factory tool..is at the factory.

Hi Glen, sorry for the confusion.
I have the automobile details listed permanently in my signature line,
but many times I neglect to remember that some members "turn off" the signature line option.

My car is a 1981 928S EURO/ROW
M28.11 - 4.7 litre
M220 Limited Slip Differential
5 speed manual transmission

You can use the two hook points front right and rear left but the engine will not be level. A caveat: I did not remove alt or ps pump. You have limited space but it will come out. I installed the same way but it takes some effort. Remember to undo the wiring harness from the left side of the crossmember after getting some room.

You need three chains. It's kind of hard to get right and may take a few trials to get right.

People do it differently but, in front, you need to lift from the stock eye with a second chain going to the other side of the engine. The tool in the manual illustrates this.

For the front, I use a short chain to the stock eye and then a long chain that hooks onto the bracket for the power steering pump.

The back is done to the stock lift point.

Without the third chain it'll tip a lot and jam in the engine bay.

With (the 3 point tool or) the 3 chain system, it looks like the hoist would then lift directly up from a point centered on the spider.

Could you post the measurements? I wonder if Porken is paying attention?

I'm guessing that a homemade equivalent is not rocket science, even if it required a triangulated brace for the third leg.

The third leg is a stabilizing point. Keeps the engine from rocking. The lifting is done at the corners.

Several extra hands sure help out. I did it with the two points and the HF load leveler. remove PS pump, Alt and smog. It all gets very tight once about 1/2 way up.

I'm unfortunately in the middle of extending my workshop and all of my Porsche parts and tools are packed away in storage. I'll post dimensions of the factory tool once everything comes back out of storage which should be in a couple of months time.
