Found a listing for a RX7 13BT oil cooler on an other list. Looking at the dimensions..seems really close to the stock 90 and up oil cooler. Anyone have the dimensions of the stock one?
Anyway, whats the Rennlist opinion on using something like this on my track car? Price is between 75 used to 99 new which is way more reasonable than other options out there (Mocal). Dimensions are 500mm by 100mm by 50mm and I believe it takes a 18m size fitting (an10
Here's a pic..

these are a very popular addition for the 944/951 and make a significant reduction in oil temps. I have one on my '89 S Turbo with positive results.
as long as it fits, it certainly is less expensive than the MOCAL unit you noted.

Ok so GT is five tube one pass with an external return pipe....the Mazda is six tube using three one direction three return, one header is a u turn. So oil spends more time inside the cooler but flows only in three tubes at a time..Mazda should cool more which a track car will need.

Cool... I think I'll grab it and see how it fits...
thanks for the measurements Rob...I could see someone replacing the factory one with one of these pretty easily....especially since the stock units are hard to get nowadays.

Adam, not sure, as the racer is in my storage garage. IIRC the outputs from the Setrab are M22 and there are AN-16 adapters on those.

I don't know much about the oil coolers. But I seem to recall that 928 doesn't circulate 100% of the oil thru the cooler even when the thermostat is on, so doesn't the flow rate figure into that determination?

The oil thermostat does direct all the flow to the cooler loop however there is a bypass pressure relief which opens if there is too much resistance like from too thick too cold oil to assure that enough flows into the oil filter and bearings. During warm up phase as the thermostat begins to close the oil can pass either to the cooler or thru the thermostat. The bypass is the small spring and piston and set at less than one bar as I recall so any pressure difference of greater than that (it sees pressure on both sides) allows it to open.

The RX7 cooler works great...almost 1qt capacity too...keep in mind you do need to remove the built in oil thermostat that is in it....not sure how to do it, but thats what we did in the estate....we used one for a tranny cooler....worked great and still does!!!!!
