Default Broken door handle hinge

About to start on another Rite of Passage, drivers door handle hinge quit a couple of days ago, part ordered from Roger, write ups loaded on my iPad, band-aids and Boddingtons at hand.

Will let you know how it went.

You are in my thoughts.
Mine looked like a bomb went off by the time I was done.

Not the ideal time of year - but these things don't break conveniently.

It should be just a lengthy process... not too hard if you know what you are trying to do - still frustrating though... (and maybe cold...)

Like others commented, not hard just a lengthy process. It was my first repair because handle broke when getting put on trailer. Great instructions from this forum made the job possible.

Good luck.

Hey Sands, make sure you have someone line the handle up level on the outside before you tighten it down. I didn't, and now I have to look at that
crooked handle until I need to take the door apart again. Not a job you want to do twice.

Just a heads up. First thing I fixed was my door handle. However, the pot metal housing wasn't broken like you see in most of the pictures posted. The bolts holding it to the door had just loosened a lot. Didn't have to totally remove the security shied and all the linkages, just removed shield bolts/nuts to move and provide access to exterior handle nuts. Note the comment on lining up to exterior, the holes are slotted, allowing crooked fitment, or if set too high, handle binding on opening.

Cheers, Phendriks

FWIW anyone else reading this,
its wise to take blue tape and tape the outside handle into position prior to loosening the bolts,
also make sure it is straight of course before adding the tape.

This might be common sense but bears repeating, lubricate the lock mechanism as this is usually the reason the handle breaks,
due to increased force needed to work it.
