People get ticked off when they point to the sky and say it's blue, and you say "prove it".
Just because you deny rational thought does not mmake the statement false. The tensioner riding the belt in a dynamic way is better than a fixed tension. Period.

The solution to every 928 not parked at a real 928 mechanic like Greg 's is to tight the God dawned thing so the light goes off. That's how it goes and has gone for 30 god damned years and is a major Contributing factor to why thesecars have this reputation.

I'm getting real close to putting some people on ignore. Because no matter what is said, as lo g as it's said by a few individuals, they are saying down is up and blue is red. And I think it's just to duck with people. Canadians are supposed to be polite. From what I can see they are mostly some computer keyboard jockey dicks with too much time on their hands.

Playing guess why the Porsche engineers did this or that can be fun, as long as you accept that most of time you are going to be wrong. Using a spring to keep a fairly constant force on the timing belt would have been both cheaper and simpler, so why didn't they choose that option?

I used to routinely ignore people for a while until they stopped posting prolifically, then I'd remove them. Sometimes for being dicks, sometimes just because their rantings cluttered up interesting threads.

For some bizarre reason I got out of the habit, not sure exactly why, but I recently noticed my behaviour change.

So now if someone's posts are making me think "what an idiot", I just put them on ignore. Its currently at 7 people and growing because this is a fun hobby, and I meet enough narcissistic ******* during work hours.

"Rational thought" has been proven wrong time and again over history. At one point the world was flat. Everyone believed it and you had prove it isn't. Until it is proven then it isn't so. So don't believe that just because you feel it is rational thought that it must be true.

I have been proven wrong before and when that happens I am happy to admit I was wrong. Until then I will stand by my statement that the factory tensioner is perfect for this application. It does what was intended by the engineers and is suitable in it's application. Gears last over 100k , belts last 100k, water pumps last 100k. All as designed. When serviced in the manner as prescribed this system does exactly what we need it to do. In addition, if there is a premature failure, it has a system that warns you of a change in parameters. To me this last part is important. To some others it is not. Make your own conclusions. That is fine. Just don't make unsubstantiated claims. That is all I ask.

That is not in the least a failing of the system. That cannot be used as data saying the system is not any good.

Wow. You have never seen me personally attack anyone on this or any other forum. Canadians are polite. We are also educated and understand physics. Some of us even work for a living in the industry, which gives us a unique point of view to the process.

You seem to be following in Sean's footsteps with the name calling and personal attacks. A symptom of people who have no useful technical data to add to what should be a technical discussion.

Put me on ignore. It will save you from having to read what I have to say. It doesn't bother me in the least. In fact neither does the name calling. I take that kind of banter for what it is. No more , no less.

I have a 1984 US 928S. It has no warning system. I guess if it's non-interference, you don't need any warning. I put a PKT in place at no loss in that respect. I did it because I thought it would limit wear in my new gears.
Good luck,
Dave

Lets bring back some brevity to this thread - this is myself struggling with tightening the tensioner bolt in a remote place with limited tools. Blood, sweat & tears - not as though I have not done his before. Very funny!! It is good to laugh at yourself once in a while

None of this would have happened if you had gotten a car with a proper Rogerbox. Notwithstanding that this is not the shifter hand for said car.

Meh. We've been stuck inside with the extreme cold the last few days. I'm in Wisconsin, not Canada, but I'm getting pretty stir crazy myself. I've written out some pretty nasty, sarcastic & snarky posts, only to walk away for a few minutes, reread them and delete before hitting the "Post" button. On this and other forums. Others seem to not have that self restraint.

I do have to say that some people have a "double standard" for PAs. What they call someone else isn't a PA, but for someone else to call them the same thing is a PA.

Rational thought was not what people used to come up with a flat earth. Religion was - and that was not based on rational thought. Next.

You are already underwater. Using the word perfect. Nothing is perfect and everything has room for improvement. I am sure you will go search for my own usage of the word now. Have fun. 100k water pumps? Seriously?

The elephant in the room is that the original system was an albatross throgh the 80s and 90s for owners. Yes - people can make it work for relatively okay periods. But it needs constant upkeep, and the damn light scares people into... TIGHTENING it TOO FAR. Rational thought involves critical thinking about all facets. I have said it basically works, but the new stuff is better, and you want to argue that on a sliver of info about the previous system. lol.

Your attacks are subtle and passive aggressive - just like Saint Stan with his "5k car" thread responses when people come to sell cars here. You dig at certain subjects with CERTAIN people and its VERY noticeable for those of us humans who can see trends.

I don't follow in anyone's footsteps because I am not stating anything personally, unless the shoe fits on the Candadian dick comment. Thats a GENERAL comment based upon SEVERAL people - so by nature it is not a personal attack. But thats up to you and you being offended is up to you as well. Yes, of course, when someone says something off-technical its because they HAVE no technical info. Go on with that assumption. You'll go far in life.

Stop being passive aggressive and nit-pick crap like this because of the players involved, and you wouldn't have to protest so much about not caring.

I went to SNC. I am going to state that I am not sure you are stir crazy about the cold or stir crazy about simply being in Kaukauna.

C'mon man! We got the WIR race track, we got 1000 Islands Nature Center, we got the shooting range, we got the MOST aromatic air in the area.

It's PARADISE...

When the temp gets above zero anyway.
