Chebby V8 conversion on a 90GT?
I predict this will go sideways rather quickly. I have bound myself in a flame suit, and await the collective -- er, wisdom of the crew.
Despite my better plans, I don't want to put the GT back on the road with the stock engine. It's too darn unpredictable, and I've had nothing but problems(some of my own making) along the way.
So, my solution to have a near DD car back is to use the current 5.7L bowtie engine sitting in my garage and grab up the Renegade adapters to join the chassis and engine in unholy matrimony.
I was going to make this a poll, but presume what the results would be, I deferred. My goal is to have a car I can get in, drive around for a while, get home and put away, and not have to futz with it(much) to get some driving time. I already have a 340HP Chebby engine in fine fit, and can get the right bellhousing, clutch and PP for a song.
I'm a big fan of the 928 chassis, and the interior comfort is outstanding, but haven't had much good luck with the lump up front. If I decide to do it, I'd just keep the GT engine under the bench for if or when I sold the car.
Do your worst.

I say go for it, but don't come in here (and I know you won't) spewing love for the unholiness. I am curious, what made you give up? Just a bulleted list will do.

A GT engine can live a very long reliable life. I up to over 250k miles now, it has been my DD for over 5 years, and it's supercharged too. What is unpredictable about the stock engine?

If I could find a S4 auto or 5sp with a blown engine and decent paint and int I would consider this. But then, I've got a broke-*** GT sitting around the house not running still. The plan is to get this car back on the road, not add to the count.

Come now, that doesn't sound like anything throwing $15-$20K at the GT engine (if it's seized) couldn't fix.
All kidding aside, I say go for it if it's what you want to do. If it was me I'd try to make the swap such that it could be reversed without much significant pain or evidence of what had been done. Someday there will be only a handful of 928 GT cars left and it might be well worth the $$ to resurrect the original power plant.

The Renegade conversion looks pretty easy. Adapter plate for the bellhousing, oil pan, motor mount, etc. I'd keep the wiring and the ECUs in a box for install later. Use existing torque tube, and rear trans. Have to buy headers, and FI system. I already have an ignition for it.

My lights, gauges, HVAC have all worked well with the exception of the relay failure on the hvac head. No problem with brakes, windows, or other chassis stuff except small things. The engine has been the bane of my life for the past few years.
