Hans,

Look at my GT thread over on reutterworks. This is exactly what I did. Best investment I made. Also while you are in there do a single weatherpak for the A/C compressor

I made the necessary tweaks to the design, and sent it back over to the shop.

Still trying to get a better deal on the snouts. They are a bit pricey now. Getting really close.

Thanks
Hans

Radiators are getting very close now. Stopped by the shop yesterday to have a meeting with the fab department. I think I have convinced them to tool up billet caps for end of the tanks. This will provide the best possible mount for the radiator, as well as stronger bosses for the drain and vent fittings.

The inlet and outlet will have a female threaded port which will allow the installation of either a 1-3/4" hose fitting (stock) or -20AN male fitting. One set of fittings will be included with the radiator.

The upper front trim that holds the vent hose will be part of the top strap for a cleaner look. The upper vent fitting will also be billet aluminum.

I am meeting with them again early next week, and they think I can have the first prototype unit by Friday (may not have the billet tank caps, but will be good for initial testing.

The reason this is relevant to the fans (apart from them being complimentary products) is that they will be ready about the same time, and I am hoping I can get people interested in a complete cooling cartridge. I can not justify the tooling expense for the radiator snouts without getting some definite pre-orders, and would make sense as far as lead times go, to offer a introductory price on a complete cooling kit. Leadtime on both the snout fabrication and custom cores would be about the same time.

I am also looking at buying a dedicated 3D printer for the project to print snouts from Nylon. I do have a quote for making them from carbon fiber and fiberglass, but its fairly expensive. I will need to have 10 shrouds lined up before I can consider the tooling expense associated with the snouts. Otherwise, if people are interested, we will need to look at the composite route, which will increase the price of the shroud by about $125/unit.

Regards,
Hans

Any discussion of target price point(s) yet?

A bit of an update.

I was able to pick up the first prototype radiator yesterday. Its was designed to be as close to stock dimensions as possible to fit as stock, and be compatible with supercharger kits and other modifications that require more room in front of the engine.

This is the first test unit to confirm fit. Future units will likely have billet top/bottom caps on the end-tanks and the option for female threaded inlets/outlets for use with a variety of screw-in connections ( -20AN and 1.75" hose, as well as other common billet fittings available).

The top vent nipple thread has been changed to SAE from metric to allow more common fitting options, and billet nipple included. The bottom drain remains M10 for use with a stock drain bung. This could be changed over to a different fitting if requested.

Other differences between this radiator, and other aluminum units is that the front trim rail with vent hose hold-down is incorporated into the top strap. This significantly increases the strength of the radiator, and it should be more resistant to twisting as we know that part of the frame has a decent amount of flex. The top and bottom tube of the core, which is shrouded by the straps, have been welded shut inside the tank header. This should also tie the radiator together better than relying on the braising alone with no effect on cooling capacity.

It is shown with the dual 12" low-profile shroud. Also available will be a dual 11" high-flow fan setup. The dual 11's do flow more than the dual 12's, but they are strait blades and deeper, so not as practical for a street application. Both versions of the shroud clear the cooler lines, so can be pulled out quickly.

After confirming that everything fits, and making any necessary changes, I will be able to start looking at pricing.

Hans

Would the original fan and shroud fit the new radiator? Would there be slots at the bottom edge of the radiator for the tabs of the original shroud to fit into?

Bilal,

They are 100% interchangeable. A stock fan system mounts to the new radiator, and the new shrouds fit a stock radiator. And to the best of my knowledge, this is the first replacement radiator that has stock dimensions, so it will fit the chassis correctly.

^^ yikes.

No curved-blade fans? Not enough flow or not enough delivery on the theory of lower noise?
