Victor,

Those are printed. Not sure I can justify the tooling to have them cast. I will probably just print the first several sets, and if there is enough demand, will go investigate further from there.

Lets talk later... I think your 3d printer is better than mine, as those look great. I need a few things printed of updated and new parts, and I think yours could do the quality I need for molding originals.

Waiting on the new 3D printer to be delivered to start cranking out the inlet snouts. The urethane casting tooling was too expensive, and didnt want to pass that along to you guys. Printing the snouts should be significantly less expensive.

If someone actually needed one of these sooner, I could print a set of snouts on the Stratasys, but that proprietary plastic is kind of pricey.

I will start working on pricing now that I have ordered the printer and know that is the way I am going.

Thanks
Hans

This might be a dumb question....

On the first page you mention the fans to use are Spal 30102030, in looking around these look to be pusher fans, would that be right for an 87 S4? wouldn't I want puller fans (Spal 30102029)?

Fixed it. It was a bad part number listing on Spal's website.

Let me check back in with the laser cutter. Files have all been finalized, and its just a matter of getting them back from the fab shop.

So updates all around.

The dual 12" Spal fan setup is at the queue at the sheet metal shop. The design has been updated slightly, and the snouts will now mount with a riv-stud and the fans with riv-nuts. This make it easier to assemble or take apart. I think it will be easier to ship these with the snouts loose, and will likely make them available without the fans so you can order those from your preferred vendor.

My "big" 3d printer will be shipping 4/10. I have already ordered black plastic to start printing snouts the second it arrives. Snouts will be a high-temperature polycarbonate/ABS blend. Please note, that this plastic, while very heat resistant, is not 100% chemical resistant. It is susceptible to acetone and other harsh chemicals. Care should be taken to not directly spray it with aggressive cleaners like some brake part cleaners, as that will effect the surface finish of the part.

The snouts will be available in either the factory hose diameter, or a more common 3.5" for use with flexible ducting material. I am going to try and stock some nice flexible tubing with cuffs.

Stay tuned for pricing and release date, but figure mid-April.

Thanks
Hans

Heard back this morning that the blanks are all cut, and that they are waiting in line for the brake.

There are a couple of minor changes. The first batch may have ABS intake snouts instead of the PC-ABS, as the supplier ran out of that material. There should be no issue with this as long as you dont pour acetone on them (some brake part cleaners contain acetone, so be careful there). I am experimenting with Nylon and ordered in some custom filament from China, but not sure I will have that up and running any time soon.

On the good side, I have added a provision for a 4-pin weatherpack connector. This is entirely optional, and the mounting point is hidden by a flap for those who dont want to use it. For those who do, I have the connector kits here with the mounting clips and they will be available with the shrouds. Pre-wire service will be an optional extra as well. The connector has been located on the passenger side of the shroud underneath that snout, so the wiring is both hidden, and near the route of the factory harness.

With the weatherpack connector, shroud removal is as simple as unplugging the single connection, and removing the two retaining screws. All can be done above the car in well under 1 minute.

I will try and have pricing done by the end of the week. I am thinking that the two main configurations will be:

1) Shroud kit (flaps, snouts and hardware included, but minor assembly required) - this will save you on shipping, and assembly should be well under 10 minutes.

2) Full assembled Fan System (Fans and snouts installed, custom harness terminated to weatherpack connector, chassis side weatherpack pins or pigtail included).

If choosing the weatherpack option, the factory fan harness will need to be shortened and either the weatherpack pins crimped to the original wires, or a pigtail can be supplied which can be soldered or installed with sealing butt connectors. If you dont have weatherpack crimpers, the pigtail will be the way to go. I will order nice solder/sealing butt connectors to have on-hand for pigtail kits.

Getting close.

Hans
