At the risk of hijacking the thread, I just did my 86.5 in "Aluminum" dip from DYC. Iwanna928 is right, it goes on easily. I'll have some more pics and comments on my thread "Another take on updating an 86.5" shortly.

I'm glad I won't be driving on UK roads anytime soon...no way I want to be behind a chrome car with the sun behind me or in front with the sun in front of me...

But hey-it's a free country-even if they monitor your every move with cameras... (the UK)

Wrapping vehicles is relatively new and growing segment. Typically RL shark tank members aren't so new and some aren't so open minded. I say don't concern yourself what others think, if it make you happy... do it!

I didn't think I would like a wrapped 928 until I saw one in person. It was much better looking than I would have thought. Doesn't make me want to wrap one, but does open my mind to the possibility... especially if it needs painted anyways.

Curious how durable this stuff is and will see how well it hold up. Thinking about wrapping my truck as an 'experiment' to see if this could be a DIY project. It has relatively flat panels.

Good old Brett- he certainly knows how to get a debate going!

For those of you who have never met him [that's most of you], I can assure you he is the real deal- does his thing and remains bullet proof no matter what others say or do and a very pleasant chap to boot.

If you kicked him in one of his nuts he would probably tell you how you missed the other one but I doubt you would get a another shot at it!

Go for it brother- it might surprise a few folks!

Regards

Fred

In fact, I like the idea in some way.

I find interesting the look of this all aluminium prototype and was wondering if it was possible to let the aluminium parts "bare" and find a paint that matches for the rest of the body.

Hi Fred

Thanks for the compliments (I think lol)

Are you back in the UK permanently now ?

The way I look at my 928 is this...

I think of it as the BEST car in the world and I give it the best stuff I can find....

It has over £10,000 worth of the best and most sophisticated Nitrous system in the world.... (WIZARDS of NOS)

It has harness top mounts from 928 Motorsports and cross brace, it has Hans window switch system, it has parts from Roger, undertrays etc...

None of these parts are original and so to the purists , I seem to be doing things wrong...

I get a LOT of stick for that, but as you mentioned I really dont care ...lol..

I THINK a Chrome wrap will suit it, I may be wrong but its only a couple of thousand if it has to be removed, which is a LOT cheaper than a full respray in the UK....

I will post pictures when its done and see if people (928 owners ) like it....that will be interesting

All the best Brett

All the best Brett

Personally I am not a fan of the "Dipz" stuff...just don't like it.

I have wrapped two of my cars COMPLETELY and one partially and a friend from college (not sure if he is here on the boards but I think he is) has wrapped his too. All done locally with a guy who is REALLY GOOD! That said, it is NO PAINT JOB FOR SURE! Some of the materials go on better and look better than others.

This guys has wrapped a 911TT in chrome. The chrome is MUCH more difficult to work with than the plain colors, so your installer had better be VERY, VERY GOOD! Also and this is VERY IMPORTANT! If you have scrapes or scratches or dents, they will show through just as if the car were painted with dents left in it. SOOOOO, fill and sand any rough spots or the wrap will look like crap. I am talking sand them as well as you would if you were going to paint the car!!!

The red by the way is a damn near perfect match for guards red and it is a product from Hexis in case anyone has a guards red car they are interested in having done! My red EURO85 car has has the hood and nose wrapped!

Here are shots of three cars...ALL wrapped! ENJOY!

Wow, that blue 928 is almost the exact same colour as my '89. Looks awesome.

Don't worry, Jim, I don't much like it either. When I update my thread you'll see I have referred to it as "cosmetic cosmoline"- I used it for reasons other than aesthetic. That said, it's an interesting style, and some have used it in an interesting and expressive way.

James, I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but how long did the vinyl guys say the wrap would last? Especially, with a car that is garaged?

The red car with the wrap really has me turned on about it. My roof isn't looking as good as it used to. The hatch is showing the same aging as well.

Jim Those look awesome.

Plastidip for cars is a good alternative if your paint is shot.......clear coat damage etc. Dip will make it look road worthy until you are ready to paint(saving up $) for a killer paint job.

I always thought a carbon fiber wrap would look cool.
