91 5 spd up for Insurance auction
Just wanted to post this in case anyone is interested. A good opportunity to pick up a low mileage fixer. Looks like some relatively light damage .

Auction ends on Thursday so you may want to hurry if interested.
I would go for it but I just picked up another project car.
Good Luck.

Interesting. May be tweaked up front.

I was interested in buying that 91 GT back in 2006, PO was a guy named Matthias in the bay area. Wanted $24K for it at the time. Shame to see it crunched like that. Only done 9000 miles in the past 7 years.

If that was over here I would seriously consider having a go for it considering it is a GT with the manual tranny as Rob confirms. I was not sure initially but the dash/throttle quadrant gives it away as not being an automatic [was not sure about the interior picture- the gear **** could have been been an after market add on from what little I could tell]- and so for 91 is has to be a GT.

Matthias was a coach in my son's street hockey league in nearby Lafayette. Met him several times and saw the car. It was sweet. Boy, that sure looks like it could be just a fender. I don't see evidence of enough damage to tweak the rails or shock tower, BUT if there was enough to damage to total it, you have to wonder.

Looks like wheel is still straight, I've seen similar damage on a 928 that a well known area body shop wanted $12k to repair, so it could have easily been totaled if the owner didn't want the car anymore.

Looking at the impact line I would say it is merely a fender bender with the wing being forced backwards with the buckle pushing the hood alignment out of whack. I would not mind betting the inner wall/mounting rail are still aligned.
Indeed, if you look at the photo on the auctioneers website the engine bay photo shows the top brace exactly as it should look- very slightly bowed- yup I reckon that one is mostly cosmetic.
Any significant impact at that point onto the suspension breaks the lower arm bracket- ask me [or my late S4] how I know!
I bet Mark A will have his nose firmly in that trough!
Great opportunity for someone I reckon.

You might also be able to use one of the Copart brokers:
http://www.copart.com/c2/online_salv...n_brokers.html
This car isn't listed on the Copart site but the brokers are probably able to bid for IAA cars. Possible resources for finding a way to bid. They can also help arrange shipping.

If it needs a frame pull it'll be slight.
Easy to total these cars when a high quality shop gives the full priced quote. Needs a fender and a turn signal. Could need a hood. Maybe a bumper cover and a chin spoiler. Then a decent repaint.

Currently there are 9 prebids and currently at $2,000. I was the first bidder and started the prebid at 500 .... kinda spiraled out and likely go into the 3-5k+ area which then i rather take Craigslist being I can actually inspect the car
Do note: I prefer years between 86.5-89 model years so I am not too interested in it if it gets too high in $$$, it might be different for you.
I have a max of 2,500 bid limit to restrict myself, need to bump my reserve money up so I can bid 5k thou.

I just got my first 928, so a second 928 isnt yet on my list... and my "extended" area has 5k-9k porsche regularly on craigslist so that affects my bidding judgement on how much I am willing to spend and also seen 800-3500 on the low end too.
But getting a car for parts sounds like a good idea (smoke in the interior is getting to me)
