Hah! I think the real shame may come when you see the rest of the car
Looks positively scary until the hood is opened.
Thanks for the kind words, I look forward to seeing your progress on #30 when the season slows down!
Well, good ol #30 is slightly mothballed until I get the white 82 put back together. I cannot show up at SITM for the 5th year in a row not driving one of my own 928's . But.... I did just buy an axle for her from Mark, So she will get a little lovin'
So the engine bay is done and the engine is ready to install. I am awaiting the kids to have college winter break to do the actual install. Decided to keep busy with the details.
Coil is done, using GM corporate blue which is a great match. Thanks to Rob Edwards for the decals Smog pulley and filter housing freshly powdercoated
Awesome work. I'm also working on a 79 5 spd and I admire the attention to detail you have. My racecar project is hardly the same haha. Keep up the good work!

Thank you! I am getting excited to have the install done.
Air pump is done. Not sure which is technically correct, the blue label or the black one. The blue was on the car but the black one was a little nicer so I reaffixed it to the refurbished pump. I have also seen Phillips head 10mm hex bolts used to secure the pulley to the hub but I went with regular bolts as that is what was on my pump originally.
The cast iron pump backing should be painted black. Will be addressing that before install.
We installed the engine on the 26th. Never had an easier install. I updated the engine mounts to the later style so the engine sits a tad high until it settles. Now onto to the remaining accessories and clutch. I am shooting for a mid February start up
I did the clutch install today, updated to the later ball stud and clutch arm while I was at it. Job went well but I do hate lifting that clutch pack in place. Need to get me a lift one of these days.
Also installed the ground. Amazing what commercial wheel acid will do to clean aluminum and other metals. Before and after shot after one spraying.
It was like new after two more sprays and a little scrub.
Next is the engine accessories and the radiator. Start up by end of month looks like a real possibility!
It lIves again! We started it today. Ran good considering I have adjusted nothing. I let it run over a period of 40 minutes. It cleared it throat pretty good. No more smoke now. Starts easily but the idle is way low and can be hard to keep running.
Minor issues so far:
slight slight slight fuel weep at the feed line to the fuel distributer.
oil level sensor is wonky
BUT the best part is that it drives! I was able to turn it around in my driveway and pull it back into garage. Clutch is smooth as silk!!
Now the tune starts. Need to reread my own posts to relearn all that I once knew about CiS.
